Despite moving almost a year ago, my apartment still feels far from finished. I’ve been of the “take your sweet, sweet time” styling mantra, especially since it’s expensive as heck to fully furnish a new home. Although I’m a firm believer that it’s worth the wait to find and invest in pieces you absolutely love, some of my most beloved home staples have actually come from spontaneously shopping holiday sales (looking at you, Black Friday sectional score). That’s why I’m keeping an eye out for any Labor Day home discounts this year, because there’s one purchasing priority I’m absolutely ready to take the plunge on: rugs.

Finding decent cotton percale sheets has always been a bit tricky for me. I don’t like to spend a lot on bedding, so over the years I’ve ended up with sheets that were too flimsy, too heavy, or, even worse, ridiculously papery and crunchy (did I fall asleep on a bag of chips?!!!). After much trial and error, I finally found a great budget-friendly set from a department store brand that ultimately became my go-to when it came time to buy new sheets — and then I fell in love with Martha Stewart. The bedding, not the woman. The Martha Stewart Collection Cotton Percale Set from Macy’s turned out to be the best affordable option I’ve found so far, and I’m never going back.
Martha Stewart’s down-alternative comforter has made Apartment Therapy’s Best List, so it’s no surprise that the brand’s bed sheets had the same wow-factor as well. As soon as I opened the package, I was enamored. These sheets felt so much softer than my previous budget brand, and the fabric was slightly thicker and more luxurious. While the 400 thread count set comes in a range of soothing colors — including Dove Grey, Pale Indigo, Milky Green, and Ivory — I chose classic White, which made my bed look really clean and inviting once it was all made up.
When bedtime rolled around, I slipped under the covers and immediately noticed how crisp and cool the sheets were. The 100 percent Egyptian cotton fabric was seriously smooth and didn’t make any crunching noises as I settled in. These sheets also didn’t make a sound as I changed my sleeping position throughout the night. I loved how breathable the sheets were. Even paired with a lightweight comforter, they kept me comfortable and I never overheated.
I’ve been using these sheets for months now and am so glad I made the switch. They’ve only gotten softer with each wash, yet somehow have maintained a bit of a crisp quality. And that cooling factor has really come in handy as the weather has started to heat up and the evenings have gotten warmer. Sleeping in these sheets almost feels indulgent, and it’s hard to believe they don’t come with a hefty price tag. In fact, while a Queen set is normally priced at $160, the sheets are almost always on sale — and right now, you can snag them for $64. Soft, crisp, luxurious bedding that won’t break my budget? It’s a dream come true!
Buy: Martha Stewart Collection Solid Egyptian Cotton Percale Queen Sheet Set, $64 (normally $160)

No matter the weather, the traffic, and all those other question marks that make it tough to make Labor Day weekend plans, one thing you always can count on is a slew of epic sales at top retailers. But the savings aren’t limited to major department stores like Macy’s and Nordstrom. You can also score big discounts at loads of small businesses we love, like Haand, a reader-favorite pottery brand we’ve had our eye on all year. The North Carolina-based company handcrafts a wide range of (dishwasher-safe!) ceramic pieces, from coffee mugs and flower vases to serving bowls and dinner plates, that are absolutely gorgeous to look at and made to last. And this weekend, the more you buy, the more you save.
Now through Tuesday, September 7, you’ll score 10 percent off purchases of $100 or more, 15 percent off of purchases of $250 or more, and 20 percent off when you spend $500 or more. These discounts apply sitewide and will be automatically applied at checkout, so go ahead and fill your cart with ceramics that you’ll use (and admire) for years to come. Below, take a look at five of our favorites, and shop the entire sale here.
