The first time I broke it out was during family movie night and everyone in my four-person family was able to share a bit of the blanket without sacrificing too much personal space. About halfway through the movie, it became clear that my blanket solution was now the problem. Debates started at a whisper about who had dibs on the Hugger that night and who didn’t deserve it. The thing is, everyone did. My mom sleeps hot and loved the pressure without added insulation. My brother had had trouble getting to sleep recently and felt like he could have dozed off within minutes of being under the blanket. And my dad… well, he actually did, missing the movie and most of the argument.
The thing about Bearaby weighted blankets is that they totally stand alone against their competitors. They’re made entirely of organic cotton and totally free of fillers like plastic or glass beads, so the weight is distributed as evenly as possible. And since there’s no need for multiple layers of blanket to encase any filling, Bearaby’s blankets are also the most breathable weighted ones out there. Don’t run into the same issue I did, though — I recommend the Hugger for co-sleepers who want a weighted blanket that covers the whole bed and stays there. Shopping for something more personal? The Hugger comes in three neutral colors, — white, light gray, and a deeper gray — designed to basically melt right into your existing bedroom decor. And while the Hugger is not cheap, I do have to say that the price is completely justified to me by its totally unique size, weight, design, and construction. And, if you think about it, if that’s the only thing standing between you and your (and your partner’s!) best sleep, most relaxing moments, and overall wellbeing for years down the line, it could even be called a small price to pay.

Nailing down the perfect sleep setup for yourself has its own challenges. But add the ideal night’s sleep of another person to the process and, suddenly, you find yourself in a rabbit hole of research searching for anything that’ll work for you both. This new organic cotton sheet set from beloved bedding brand Riley has come to my relationship’s rescue — saving me from getting too cold, my partner from getting too hot, and either of us from kicking each other out of bed entirely.
Because I genuinely prefer my home at 75 degrees Fahrenheit year-round, you can guess I wouldn’t typically opt for bedding aimed to cool. My partner, on the other hand, is half human half radiator and sometimes won’t use covers at all. In testing out these new sheets, I expected to love them knowing the quality of the brand and how sustainably they’re made. No part of their production involves anything genetically modified! What I didn’t expect was for them to be the thing that makes us both wake up, look at each other, and realize we’d both just had amazing sleep in the same place at the same time.
Woven with a blend of 100 percent long staple organic cotton and Riley’s cooling organic cotton sateen, these are luxuriously soft enough for me to cozily wrap up in and crisp enough for my partner to do the same. Each set is individually garment dyed in a range of natural hues, like charcoal, oatmeal, and blush (my favorite), so no two sets are identical they way they would be if they were entirely mass produced. As suggested, I gave my set a wash before using them, despite the temptation to use them right out of the package as they were already incredibly soft. Even with the special color dying process, these sheets are a seamless addition to my laundry routine and don’t require any special treatment (besides forgoing bleach, which isn’t recommend for bed linens in general).
The set includes the usual suspects: a fitted sheet as well as a flat sheet and two pillow cases. While we didn’t before as it would usually cause too much insulation, we actually use the flat sheet with this set. It gives me a little more to snuggle but he barely feels it. These sheets are a total win-win.
