Comforters, whether down or down alternative, have never been a welcome addition to my bed. I grew up with the bed blanket-lightweight coverlet combo. I never had to deal with stuffing a comforter into a duvet cover — until I started working here last year. I’ve been highly suspicious of comforters, because they require the extra duvet cover, which seems like more work than it’s worth. And, when I have slept under them in my friends’ houses, they’ve been horrifically stifling, and I wake up drenched in sweat. My opinion of comforters was forever altered late last year when I got to try Quince’s Premium Down Alternative Comforter.

I’ve been intrigued by Quince on several fronts. My colleagues have enjoyed Quince’s pillow and many of their sheets sets, meanwhile, my friends have also been buying clothes from Quince as a Zara or H&M alternative. I have yet to add any non-home items to cart, but I likely will during my pre-spring closet refresh. Anyway, I decided to put their down alternative to the test.
I opted for the Lightweight version, because as a hot sleeper who sweats, I was concerned that the All-Season might be too heavy for me. Coming in at only $119.90 for a Full/Queen size, this comforter is a steal compared to its competitors, which normally charge upward of $200 for a comforter.
When I unboxed this comforter, I was surprised by how lightweight it was. It didn’t feel much thicker than a sleeping bag that I used to take camping as a kid. It’s made out of hypoallergenic microfiber that mimics the feel of down and its surrounded by a luxe cotton sateen shell. I became worried that I might have gone too far in the other direction — our apartment is chilly at night and my boyfriend is a cold sleeper.
After wrestling the down alternative comforter (which luckily features a corner tie in loops to connect it to the duvet) into my Peacock Alley duvet cover, I put it on the bed. This comforter is soft and aesthetically pleasing enough to sit on the bed without a duvet cover, but that’s just my personal preference. The combo of the two had a nice effect on my bed, making it looking like an upscale hotel.
The real test was sleeping under it during New York City’s very odd winter weather. Temperatures have been bouncing around from 60 degrees to 20 degrees, and this comforter has been pleasant to sleep under during all of it. I do not wake up looking like I ran three miles, and my boyfriend is warm enough. Everyone wins! Plus, It’s light enough to the point where it has a nice, comforting weight to it but it isn’t so heavy that you have to yank it from one side of the bed to the other. We are both cover-stealers, so the comforter does occasionally get pulled to one person’s side during the middle of the night (and it hasn’t shown any wear or tear from that experience).
I’d highly recommend this comforter for all types of sleepers. It’s one of the more affordable down alternative comforters out there, and it doesn’t skimp on quality.

I never thought you’d catch me saying this, but I am hopelessly, irrevocably in love with… a comforter. Trust me: Having this much love for an inanimate object surprises me too, even as someone who has spent their career finding and sharing some of the best home products out there. But you guys — the Buffy comforter is just that good.

The biggest sign as to how life-changing this comforter actually is? I can barely remember what my zzzz’s were like before it. My Buffy Cloud Comforter has been a staple on my bed for several years now, following me from my time in an itsy bitsy New York City apartment to life in the suburbs. It’s truly the Goldilocks of comforters: cozy but cooling, plush but not obstructive, and filled with an eco-friendly down alternative (recycled plastic water bottles) that truly feels like sinking into a cloud. Oh, and now there’s one more perk to add to that list: It’s on major sale for Labor Day weekend (more on that in a few)!
Basically, what I’m saying is this: The aptly-named Buffy Cloud Comforter cannot be missed. It somehow satisfies my desire for a burrito-like sleeping environment as I share a bed with my husband, who can only be fairly described as an absolute furnace. It stays on our bed throughout all four seasons, keeping us cozy in the winter, cool in the summer, and temperate during all those weird in-between moments. The TENCEL lyocell shell (derived from eucalyptus) is silky soft to the touch and looks great as-is or covered with a duvet, while the comforter’s unique stitching pattern locks the fill in place for a design that will never get lumpy or bunched.
You don’t have to just take my word for it, though — more than 22,899 happy reviewers love the comforter just as much, awarding it a whopping 4.8 stars and making bold claims like, “I’d I rather sleep with [it] than my boyfriend.” (Harsh, but I honestly get it.) Another reviewer says, “I have bought several comforters and have returned them because they just didn’t feel right. This comforter is light and airy as a cloud with a luxurious silk-like cover. And it’s washable! Worth the extra cost over less expensive, inferior products.”
Here’s the best part: For a limited time, you can score up to 35 percent off a ton of Buffy items — including the aforementioned Cloud Comforter, as well as the Breeze Sheet Set, the Linen Duvet Cover, and their viral Wiggle Pillow — in honor of Labor Day Weekend, with no code necessary. I’m not sure why you’re even still here… go snag this thing ASAP! Your sleep routine will thank you.
