The McGee Home Entryway: A Target Unboxing

The McGee Home Entryway: A Target Unboxing

I love any opportunity to refresh our decor —

— seasons, new collections, or sometimes just a mood. Today, it’s our entryway, which can really set the tone for the whole home. We’re unboxing a few pieces that I’ll layer in to refresh the overall look of when you first walk in the door.

Of course, I generally keep a few constants as a foundation, like the console table, mirror, and lamp. But swapping simple decor items is an easy and practical way to play around with new styles. The combinations of vases, baskets, artwork, candles, books, and florals are endless. And lucky for us (though Syd may deny!), so is my urge to redecorate.

Explore the pieces from our entryway below, and see how they play into a bigger, welcoming atmosphere.

Creating a Welcoming Entryway

Creating a Welcoming Entryway

Whether guests are visiting, or family is coming home after a long day, the entryway can be such a welcome hello as they walk into the space.

The entryway really sets the tone for the rest of your home, inviting you to sit and stay awhile — or at least to feel a sense of welcome even if you’ve just dropped by to say hello. It’s your home’s way of giving a good first impression.

By giving the space some thoughtful attention, it can transform the experience you have when walking through the door. It’s a beautiful way for your home to invite you inside, nodding softly as it welcomes you into a place of refuge. Regardless of how much space you’re working with, we have a few simple tips and go-to styling tricks for creating an entryway that does all of the above.

Consider Height

When styling an entryway, it’s important to make height part of the equation. Think about how much space you have, whether it’s one wall or two, and plan for where you’ll add contrasting heights.

In a two-walled entryway, style the primary wall with a console and the opposite wall with something just a bit shorter like a slipcovered bench. If you are focused on a single wall, find ways to add a variety of heights through the use of mirrors or artwork, faux greenery, or lamps. This is a foundational recipe for success, giving you a great starting point for the rest of your entryway styling.

4 Ways to Elevate Your Home with Fall Trends

4 Ways to Elevate Your Home with Fall Trends

It’s no secret that we are avid lovers of timelessness!

But transitioning from summer to fall inspires us to infuse new ideas into our homes. We’ve approached some of our favorite trends that are having a moment in design with a streamlined, yet traditional take. This balance of trendy and timeless is exactly what helps us keep a renewed vision for the months ahead.

The truth is, the more we focus on timelessness, the more our spaces feel elevated and intentional. This turns trends into luxury staples, making it possible to give our home a subtle redesign that feels true to the season, all without reinventing the wheel every time.

With that said, we’re here to share some of our favorite ways to bring luxury into the home with material trends we’re embracing this season!

1- Plaids and Stripes

With all this new inspiration, we’re channeling our energy into a unique curation of personal style. By layering plaids and stripes in new ways, you can infuse your own personality into spaces in a playful mix or incorporation of pattern. After all, it’s not just in the details — it’s what we do with them.

2- Glass Details

We love the simplicity that glass adds to vignettes. It’s a charming blend of both closed and open storage, giving an extra layer to styling while keeping things contained and organized. Whether designed with straightforward, smooth lines or clever ribbed details, glass is making a comeback. We can’t say we’re mad about it!

3- Touches of Travertine

The natural texture and imperfections of travertine are part of what draws us to this beautiful stone. It feels almost vintage, and if you know us at all, you know we love an old-meets-new look. We’ve paired it with other natural materials like wood, greenery, and metal to play into its curated aesthetic, giving added maturity and warmth to decor!

4- Rich Color Palettes

One of the best ways to infuse warmth into your space is through palette. In many ways, it establishes the tone of the room and is the base for layers and details that give depth to your space.

We’re loving rich, muted reds, warm-toned neutrals, and deep greens. To support this palette, we’re layering in different fabric types (hello, velvet!) to help bring dimension to these colorways. From waffled throws to block-printed linen pillow covers, texture and color bring richness to our Fall designs.

How to Style Your Bookshelves

How to Style Your Bookshelves

Spoiler alert: It’s not all about books.

Bookshelves are the best canvas for displaying meaningful collections, adding visual interest, and maximizing storage — all in one. Whether you’re starting to style a bookcase from scratch or refreshing what’s currently there, these tips will give you the confidence of a seasoned stylist. And with our Threshold collection for Target, you’ve got everything you need to fill in the blanks.

How to Style Your Bookshelves

“Styling bookcases is one of my very favorite things to do, because it shows off a little personality and is easy to change up over time.”

– Shea McGee

No. 1: Take inventory

We like to clear everything off the shelves to give ourselves a blank slate. With all of your decor on the floor, you can get a good look at your options and organize them by size. Need some inspiration for what to display? Try a mix of these:

  • Books (and bookends!)
  • Vases
  • Framed photos
  • Artwork
  • Baskets and boxes
  • Candles
  • Potted plants
  • Dishes and bowls
  • Accent objects

No. 2: Lay the foundation with larger items

Placing your biggest pieces first will ground the look and create focal points. We recommend staggering them in order to balance the visual weight across the shelves.

No. 3: Create groupings of two or three smaller items

Fill in the gaps and add some personality with small and medium-sized items, grouped into mini vignettes. Some easy ways to do this are stacking books (horizontally or vertically), pairing similar objects together, and layering an item with a framed photo. But don’t forget — negative space can go a long way!

“As you shift things around, don’t be afraid of a little bit of white space.”

– Shea McGee

No. 4: Step back to gauge balance

As you find a new home for all of your odds and ends, don’t forget to see the bigger picture. Varying up the grouping structures, object heights, and even the textures will bring an overall sense of balance and interest to the eye.
