If you’re looking to brighten up your home while waiting for the summer months to come along, IKEA’s latest collection might be the thing for you.
Titled VARMBLIXT, the collection is the Swedish retailer’s collaboration with Rotterdam-based designer Sabine Marcelis. The much-anticipated IKEA x Sabine Marcelis collection was first announced in 2021, with the integral items being revealed at the 2022 Milan Design Week.

The collection brings together art and design at an affordable price point, and hones in on Marcelis’ signature style, which includes shifting the perception of lighting from functional to emotional.
Designed to bring a new meaning of lighting to the home, there are four lighting items in the VARMBLIXT collection which will be kept long-term in the IKEA range. There’s the VARMBLIXT LED Pendant Lamp ($169.99), which features curved pipes made from frosted white glass, and the VARMBLIXT LED Wall Mirror Lamp ($79.99) designed with a semi-transparent glass panel and light strip. The VARMLIXT LED Wall Lamp ($69.99) gives a minimalistic finish while still packing a punch.
Perhaps the showstopper of the collection is the VARMBLIXT LED Table/Wall Lamp ($49.99) in its perfectly infinite donut shape. An eye-catching finish to any room, the donut lamp gives off a warm orange glow.
“I wanted to take an unexpected approach to exploring the idea of how lighting functions within the home and to inspire people to consider new shapes and elements which blend into and highlight different types of interior spaces in a new, bold, and artistic ways,” Marcelis said of her lighting range.
“When the light passes through the orange glass [of the table/wall lamp], it makes the soft donut-like shape shine with a warm glow,” she added. “It’s a magical sight that catches the eye — regardless of if it’s on a table or hanging on a wall.”
As well as lighting solutions, VARMBLIXT features sleek and sophisticated glassware and serving dishes to enhance any dinner party — or the every day. Products include the VARMBLIXT Serving Bowl with Lid ($39.99) and VARMBLIXT Champagne Coupe ($8.99).
Rounding out the collection are two hand-tufted rugs that have been inspired by the delicate hues of a warm sunset. Bringing depth and texture into any space, the VARMBLIXT rugs come in two sizes and colors.
The Sabine Marcelis VARMBLIXT collection will be rolled out on IKEA.com and in stores nationwide from Feb. 2023.

A restful meld of grey tones form this luxurious modern interior design. A mixed materials palette gives the space texture, depth, and dramatic interest. Visualised by Ivan Shmailykov, the main floor of the home is a wide open plan. An airy lounge area is set beside a sociable kitchen dining zone to achieve one freeflowing connection. The lighting scheme inside this concept is also carefully planned out. Precisely spaced floor lamps, table lamps, and statement pendant lighting add glowing areas of warmth to the minimalist decor scheme. Contemporary furniture pieces lay down succinct, silky silhouettes, and a sleek modern staircase design rises like a piece of sculptural art.
A large area rug lays down a soft base in the reposeful grey living room. The grey rug is ribbed to introduce light texture into the lounge space. The texture causes subtle contrast with a set of smooth grey upholstered sofas.
At the centre of the lounge area, a moon pendant light glows majestically, patterned by lunar maria. A matt black mount plate starkly stands out against the grey stucco ceiling.
A modern fireplace complements the moon pendant light with its warm and cosy glow. A curvaceous lounge chair gets the warmest spot by the fire. This shapely design is a Groovy M chair designed by Pierre Paulin for Artifort.
Beneath the full moon pendant, a low, round coffee table mirrors its circular silhouette. The granite tabletop smoothly reflects the moonlight.
On the opposite side of the living room rug, a natural rice paper floor lamp situates a column of warming light between the two couches. A floor-to-ceiling window breaks the living room open to the sky.
A coffee table is integrated into the end of the sofa configuration. Grey candles and a small stack of coffee table books provide a simple, modern adornment.
Another integrated coffee table is centred in the second modular sofa arrangement. A chic bowl and tray combo adds understated decoration.
The sofa backrests recline to provide ultimate comfort.
A flat-topped table lamp sheds soft illumination on the modular coffee table. A small black side table echoes the lamp’s modern aesthetic.
Exquisitely veined marble decor accessories contrast with the smooth wood grain table top.
Grey concrete walls add raw, industrial texture to the decor palette. Stone floor tiles achieve a streamlined look.

At the back of the main living space, a sleek modern staircase design rises like modern art, sculpted from granite. Two wider steps form a platform floor beneath the stairwell, effectively zoning it from the living space.
An indoor plant bed is set into the base of the staircase to form a mini courtyard design. Globe lamps are set amongst an abundance of lush greenery, glowing with magical effect.
A frameless glass balustrade leaves the luxe granite stair treads visually unobstructed. The clear surround puts the contemporary design on display to the entire living space.
Across from the staircase, the kitchen and dining spaces unfold. A wooden dining table cuts bluntly into the side of the kitchen island, slotting under the granite worktop to make one melded volume.
Above the dining table, a large linear suspension light directs light strictly downward. The focussed light pools on the table, leaving the rest of the kitchen to fade into the shadows at meal times.
The kitchen sink is set into the island, placing it in natural light from a large window.
Modern dining chairs display a split of grey and black finishes. The two-toned chair design adds contemporary styling around the basic wooden dining table.
The rest of the kitchen installation is concealed behind slab-fronted, handle-free wooden doors. The secretive design keeps the living space looking uncluttered and peaceful when the kitchen is not in use.
Granite bowls and modern salt and pepper shakers make an understated dining table centrepiece.
The integrated granite sink camouflages into the granite countertop. A chrome kitchen faucet emerges with a low profile.
Inside the grey bedroom, another deeply textured rockface feature wall makes a dramatic statement behind the headboard.
A rice paper lantern emits a warming ambience at one side of the upholstered platform bed, whilst a linear pendant light descends at the other.
Silky silver-grey curtains pool at the wide bedroom windows. A frameless, floor-to-ceiling door swings into an ensuite bathroom. A freestanding glass bathtub awaits inside.
At the foot of the bed, a stunning view has been created with an indoor courtyard design and a huge skylight. The ceiling aperture opens up a magnificent skyscape and a glance at the morning weather.
A granite step frames the modern courtyard design, accentuating its sharp, cuboid form. Inside the frameless glass, small shrubs flourish in the natural sunlight.

Every weeknight, once the dishes have been washed and I’ve taken a shower, I do the same thing: I make a cup of tea, grab my favorite throw, and indulge in some kind of entertainment. Sometimes it’s a podcast, sometimes it’s a book, and sometimes it’s TikTok. Yes, dear reader, if you haven’t caught on by now, I’m a little bit TikTok obsessed. And if you’ve read any of my previous TikTok-themed pieces, you’ll know I’m particularly fond of the home and decor sides of the app. A couple of months back I wrote about candle warmer lamps and how they were taking over #DesignTok (it felt like I couldn’t go a day without seeing a video of someone decorating their space with one of these lamps.) After researching that piece and fawning after each subsequent lamp I wrote about, I decided to put one to the test for myself. So, I picked up the one that started it all: the luzdiosa Glass Candle Warmer Lamp. Let’s just say, I wasn’t disappointed.

Before I get to my review, a little refresher on these lamps and why they’re so popular. One quick look and it’s easy to see why decor aficionados love them: They’re chic, they’re stylish, and they come in a variety of different designs that’ll go with any aesthetic. But the thing that’s really special about these lamps is how expertly they marry style and function. Aside from pulling double-duty as a lamp and candle warmer (which can help extend the life of your candles!), they are also made with safety in mind. No open flame means no fires, which is a major plus for parents and pet owners. Top that off with the fact that many feature timers, and you’ll never have to fret about falling asleep with a candle on again. What’s not to love?
Okay, on to my review. Now, I knew in theory why these lamps should be lauded, but part of me couldn’t help but wonder if it was all just social media hype that would lead me to an inevitable letdown. Oh, how I love to be proven wrong. As I mentioned above, I went with this luzdiosa pick as it was the one that immediately caught my eye (and had the fastest shipping time; they are truly selling like hotcakes). First green flag: It came wonderfully packaged with two lightbulbs. Score. Next was the design — With its gold neck, neutral oak-colored base, and a glass shade that glimmered even before turning it on, I couldn’t help but let out an Owen Wilson-esque “Wow” as I unpacked it. Last but not least: showtime. I cleared off the perfect spot for it, plugged it in, and marveled both at how stunning it looked lit up and how quickly it began melting my candle; The scent was immediately dispersed throughout my apartment and I, well, was in love.
