Peek Inside Jenna Dewan’s LA Farmhouse

Jenna Dewan has found her home base. After bouncing around for a bit, the actress and producer has found her new home in the same Los Angeles neighborhood in which she was renting.

“There has been a migratory feeling over the past few years, which was why finding this house was so important and special for me,” said Dewan, who opens up the modern farmhouse she shares with fiancé Steve Kazee to MyDomaine on the cover of their new digital issue.

Along with Julien Marbot of Interior Particulier, Dewan cultivated the space that functions as a busy hub for the couple, two kids, and three dogs.

“This house immediately checked so many boxes. There’s lots of room for the kids and the backyard is great.” Dewan shares. “When those doors are completely open, the house just comes alive.”

Of course, bridging the style gap between the duo was a challenge. Like any couple, Dewan and Kazee don’t always share the same taste. But they were able to find common ground, along with Marbot’s guidance.

“Steve and I are opposites in so many ways. He loves Edison bulbs and I love cozy couches and crystals. We agreed on a lot, actually — he’s got really good style and we blend and balance each other very well,” said Dewan.

In the living room, a large plush green couch from Dewan’s first house sits under the bright row of windows, while Dewan’s grandmother’s antique Ivers & Pond piano holds court in the corner.

“When she passed away, she passed this down to us. It makes me feel so happy that it’s in our house and that our kids love it, and everybody comes and plays this piano,” explained Dewan.

Over the modern fireplace, a Wes Aderhold painting that combines yellow and blue colors brings the neighboring furniture to life.

“It was Jenna’s wish to bring color and life to all areas of the home,” said Marbot. “This is what this piece does here. It is a conversation starter and one of the first things you see when you are welcome into the living room.”

The dining room features another Aderhold, an acrylic and oil pastel on canvas which Dewan things “brings the whole room together.” A long table has served as home base for plenty of dinner parties, while a pew against the wall is used as a bench for extra seating.

The family room is where Dewan says “all the action happens.” The space is full of diverse textures, ranging from the stone coffee table to the leather couch. (And of course, a million crystals, which are Dewan’s favorite.)

Dewan’s office is actually one of her favorite rooms in the house. The desk features a teak top on light and skinny iron legs by Alain van Havre, with drawers and storage in teak and uncoated metal. Simple and chic, it also conveys a sense of power. That’s a good thing, since Dewan doesn’t mind the switch to telecommuting.

“I am still here for the Zoom life. It saves me,” the actress, who also has a production company, Everheart, shared. “I can do more and do it smarter.”

A series of photographs of Studio 54 bring a sense of joy to the space, while the sitting area features a brown leather couch and a modern coffee table with a bottom that appears to be dripping, which Dewan calls “edgy and cool.” The bright room is where Dewan comes to decompress and get things done. Of course, she also enjoys the fact that she can be a bit more natural at home.

“I am not someone who wakes up and wants a glam team to get me ready for the day. If I am not working on set, my hair is up in a bun, and I am in comfortable clothes. [Evie] calls it ‘work mom’ and ‘mom mom.’”

The outdoor space is also conducive to a busy family. Kids Evie and Callum have a dedicated spot on the side yard, with a CedarWorks play set with a rock-climbing wall, two swings and a slide. Of course, the saltwater pool is also a bit hit with Evie. When the sun goes down, Dewan and Kazee love to hit the hot tub.

Dewan also relies on her dedicated spaces for preserving her sanity. Marbot created a meditation space on the upstairs patio that has a waterfall, where Dewan focuses on her daily practice. “There is a feeling of Zen as soon as you walk out there,” she says. The primary bath is also a favorite, perfect for soaking in the bathtub before putting the kids to bed.

Off the primary bedroom is a patio, where Dewan and Kazee love to watch the sunsets over San Fernando Valley. It might be the spot where the couple plans their upcoming nuptials, when they manage to find the time. But in the meantime, they’re just enjoying their home together.

“I had a lot of great ideas about how I wanted things to feel, and Julien helped me accomplish that feeling, bringing flow and cohesiveness to the house,” said Dewan.
