This year has even seen the rise of the “revenge travel” trend, in which people booked big, luxurious vacations to “take revenge” against the time stolen from them during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. As part of the search engine’s annual Year in Search report, Google revealed the top-trending destinations on its flight search site Google Flights.
Second place goes to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. After closing its borders to international tourists during the height of the pandemic, the bustling city has dropped all its COVID-19 testing requirements for visitors, allowing travelers to check out sites ranging from the Jade Emperor Pagoda to the Binh Tay market.
Paris, France comes in third place. With iconic tourist spots like the Louvre Museum and the Eiffel Tower, the City of Lights continues to draw curious travelers year after year.
According to Google Flights data shared with Thrillist, these were the top-Googled travel destinations of 2022.
