Erica Williams and Kristen Richard are an artistic couple who have crafted a small creative living and working compound out in East Texas. Erica is a ceramist who throws under the name, THrō Ceramics, and designs and makes small batch, hand-made ceramics in a shop that was previously her grandfather’s carpentry shop. He handed it down to her and she made it into her ceramics studio. The sign through the door reads: “Create something with passion. Stay true to yourself. Light up the world and make your own way through it all.”
Erica and Kristen purchased the airstream they call home from an older gentleman for a mere $500. They gutted it, cleaned it, and re-built the interior to fit exactly what they need. It’s a cozy home, but it’s also a personal movie theater, as well as Kristen’s studio space. Kristen is a fiber artist, and the beautiful macramé creations are made in an organized corner of their Airstream.

My Style: Minimal meets Jungalow. I like things simple, Kristen wants a plant in every empty space. I don’t like anything sitting on the counter top, but the open shelves are full of ceramics and plants beautifully placed by Kristen. It’s the best of both worlds and we each bring our own style to the space.
Inspiration: Definitely from travel. It inspires our work and space. They fuel each other. From San Diego surf vibes to the quaint artist casita in New Mexico.
Favorite Element: The versatility of our bedroom. We put in a projector and screen to turn it into a movie theater when we’re taking a day off. The best part, the screen rolls up and the projector is put away. There’s no cold metal TV, so our living space isn’t centered around it. There’s a nostalgia that comes with watching a movie from a projector so it makes the experience even more fun. All while snuggled in a cozy little bed.
Biggest Challenge: The bathroom! First, bathrooms in an airstream aren’t huge. Our pups have separation anxiety, apparently so do Kristen and me, because if one of us in the bathroom all four of us are in the bathroom. Second, it didn’t make it any better when I had a not so brilliant idea to paint the ENTIRE bathroom deep blue. Literally, everything in the bathroom deep blue. Counter top, trim, window trim, cabinets, ceiling. Everything. I have no idea why I did it. Kristen has made it very clear I’m not allowed to have a paint brush anymore. She also had to fix the bathroom. It’s much brighter now.
What Friends Say: “I want one too!”
Biggest Embarrassment: Turning the bathroom into a deep blue hole. I really thought I was on to something with that choice. Didn’t work out like I planned.
Proudest DIY: The whole thing. We renovated and designed the entire space to fit our lifestyle. We love it in here!
Biggest Indulgence: Rugs!
