The Best Streaming Service for Your Enneagram Type

Do you feel overwhelmed by all of the streaming services and content out there? You’re not alone. A 2021 study showed that people are increasingly having trouble with all the choices presented to them. Maybe you have a friend who swears by HBO Max while your coworker tells you that if you don’t have Apple TV Plus you’re missing out. So, how are you supposed to decide what’s worth it?

There are lots of factors to take into consideration when it comes to finding the right streaming service. For one, you want to pick something that’s budget friendly. How often you’ll be watching and if you’re sharing the account are also some things to take into consideration. Content, of course, is the major selling point as what you decide to invest in should cater to your tastes and preferences.

Need to narrow it down so that when Friday night rolls around there’s no toggling back and forth between options while your takeout gets cold? The Enneagram can give you some guidance on the best streaming service for you based on your personality.

Below, find out which streaming service is a match for your type, but know that this is meant to be a guide and not an exact science. People’s preferences are undoubtedly unique, but the Enneagram can begin to point you in the right direction. (And if you don’t know your type, you can take an online assessment here.)

Type One, the Reformer: Discovery Plus

You have a strong desire for improving yourself, others, and things around you. You can’t help but notice what needs fixing or isn’t quite right. That’s why you love a good fixer upper or home improvement show — something that turns what’s seemingly unredeemable into pure perfection. You’ll love Discovery Plus because you can binge HGTV’s finest fixer upper shows like  “Property Brothers” and “Love It or List It.” There are also plenty of shows where you can judge other people’s questionable life decisions, like “90 Day Fiancé” and “Say Yes to the Dress,” which hits the mark for guilty pleasures. Aside from reality TV options, Discovery Plus includes A&E true crime shows, nature documentaries, and more.

Type Two, the Helper: Disney Plus

Just like Disney’s warm and fuzzy content, you have the ability to make people feel loved and accepted from the inside out. You live for the nights when everyone you care about is together and present. And what better way to bond than throwing on a fan-favorite Disney movie? With Disney Plus, you’ll have access to a wide range of content, from Marvel movies to Pixar films and nostalgic favorites, including Disney Channel Original Movies from the late ‘90s and early 2000s (of course, you know the “High School Musical” soundtrack by heart). Have your friends over for a movie night, make some popcorn, get cozy, and put on your favorite movie — or have someone else pick the movie since as long as everyone you love is happy, you will be too.

Type Three, the Achiever: Apple TV Plus

You love any subscription that feels exclusive and like you’re in-the-know. You want to be the first to fill people in on why they need to see XYZ. While Apple TV plus doesn’t boast quantity, it certainly checks the box of quality, carrying a few standouts like “The Morning Show” and “Ted Lasso.” And, as someone who’s motivated by the success stories of others, you’ll love all of the star-studded content they carry. From Billie Eilish’s “The World’s a Little Blurry” to “Watch the Sound with Mark Ronson,” there are plenty of documentaries that speak to your interests of “how they get to where they are” stories.” An absolute must watch is “The Me You Can’t See” which features illuminating stories about mental health, which can help you access the power of vulnerability.

Type Four, the Individualist: Netflix

You strive for authenticity and originality, much like the streaming platform who arguably led the movement of cord-cutting: Netflix. The streaming giant has the most original content across all streaming services and is consistently dedicated to innovative ways to engage audiences. As someone driven by their feelings, you are all about the mood of a show and how it makes you feel — and you can easily become attached to characters and their worlds. While Netflix has a great variety of original content with popular movies like “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before” and shows like “Stranger Things” there’s also a handful of nostalgic watches (ahem, rewatching “Gilmore Girls” every fall and pretending you live in Stars Hollow). A good show for you hits just right, and Netflix always delivers.

Type Five, the Investigator: Paramount Plus

As someone who values privacy and alone time, there’s nothing more you love than vegging out — and geeking out — with your favorite shows and movies. You have an innate curiosity about the world, attracting you to the fantasy realm — specifically, anything that allows you to question possibilities and think of all the “what ifs.” Paramount Plus boasts a bank of sci-fi content, including not one, but four “Star Trek” shows, and Jordan Peele’s remake of “The Twilight Zone.” If you’re not a fan of sci-fi, there’s a ton of other options that engage your discerning mind, such as “The Good Fight” and “Why Women Kill.” Oh, and shows that are a blast from the past like “Rugrats” because hey, there’s something safe and comforting about those too.

Type Six, the Loyalist: Peacock

As the Loyalist you are, relationships mean everything to you. You tend to gravitate towards shows that have a core group of friends (or co-workers) that you can voyeuristically get to know and even feel like you’re a part of. See: “The Office,” “Parks and Rec” and “30 Rock,” which all live on Peacock. Workplace comedies can also be extremely comforting to you as a way to help you find the humor in some of your own dilemmas you may face. As someone who’s always anticipating the future, revisiting nostalgic shows can bring immense peace and comfort. There’s something about the predictability and familiarity of the characters that feels like a warm hug to you.

Type Seven, the Enthusiast: HBO Max

Options mean everything to you, and when we think of options, we think of HBO Max. Sure, it’s one of the pricier streaming services out there ($14.99/month), but you’ll never experience FOMO with all the access to premium content. Not only is HBO known for quality original programming, but they have a huge library of exclusives and throwbacks that are constantly being refreshed (because we all know you get bored pretty quickly and live for what’s new and exciting). As the true escapist you are, you’ll have plenty of worlds you can run away to when things get tough (we’re looking at you, “The White Lotus”), and even gain inspiration from, since you’re always looking on the bright side.

Type Eight, the Challenger: Amazon Prime

Being the intense person that you are, you love a good crime show, workplace drama, or competition show. With you, there’s no going halfway into something, you’re either all in or you’re all out. Amazon Prime has tons of bingeable shows for you to become obsessed with. There’s “The Wilds” which speaks to your strong survival instincts or action-dramas like “Hanna” that keeps you on your toes with a compelling narrative. Being the Challenger you are, you gravitate towards plot lines that ignite your passion for justice and rooting for the underdog (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” much?). On Prime, there are tons of shows that will get a rise out of you (in a good way, of course), which you can then passionately discuss with your friends.

Type Nine, the Peacemaker: Hulu

Chill and easygoing are a few words to sum you up. Some quality “veg out” time with your favorite shows is one of your favorite ways to detox from the day (and okay, sometimes avoid your problems). Hulu is a haven for original content—shows that’ll make you laugh, cry, and everything in between. Comedies like “Pen15” and “Broad City” will cheer you up after a long day and dramas like “Handmaid’s Tale” will grip you and keep you along for the ride. While you dislike conflict in your personal life, you can’t help but be engrossed by it when it comes to people who are not you (re: TV characters). Having alone time to take it easy is important for maintaining your internal balance and peace — and there’s never anything wrong with binging “The Bachelor” all in one weekend.
