The kitchen island is a staple these days. It’s convenient, doubles as prep space, and is less intimidating than setting up a whole meal at the “big” table. But to that last point, what if you could have both together? Serena Williams, legendary American tennis player, showed how it’s done by revealing her kitchen island-table combo in an Instagram post.
In the Aug. 21 post, Williams’ caption reads, “Love the warmth and style of my European Oak Bespoke wide plank @Hakwood flooring through my house designed by @vstarrdesign.” And while her flooring is gorgeous, it’s hard not to stop and stare at her island, which has a dark brown angled table on the back side.
The two chairs make it an easy place to sit down for a meal without having to set a long dining table (pictured later in the album). The chairs themselves are a nod to the dark and light contrast throughout the room, as they feature off white seat pads against a dark frame.
The island angle, which is a modified triangle, could seat three to four people comfortably, even though only two chairs are featured in the photo. This concept doubles your serving space, allowing you to prep and serve on the island while you use the additional table space to actually sit down and enjoy. Best of all, you don’t have to walk between the island and dining table to reach the chips and dip.
Williams’ home carries a special sisterly vibe as Venus Williams helped create the design plans for it. In February, Williams posted about how her sister’s design influence in the home was so special to her. In addition to her innovative island, Williams reveals during the home tour that she also has a full art gallery in place of a “formal living room,” and a collection of unique hanging lights over her larger table.
So thank you, Williams sisters, for bringing this innovative kitchen island into the world.
