Briiv Air Purifier Review : the Natural Solution for Clean Indoor Air

I am very grateful to be able to share this briiv air purifier review with you all today. I first spotted the briiv air purifier back in early 2020 and I did a write up about it on the blog here. But at that point, I hadn’t had any personal experience with it at all. But a couple of weeks ago, briiv reached out to me and asked if I would be interested in testing it out for myself. Obviously, the answer was yes! So read on to find out what I thought of it.

When I first came across briiv I was particularly interested in indoor air quality. We’d had some problems in our home and we’d had a professional indoor air quality test to check it all out. It turned up no major issues, but all that I had learnt about indoor air quality still made the think that it might be a good idea to start looking at indoor air purifiers.

What Causes Indoor Air Pollution?

We spend up to 90% of our time inside buildings and during that time, we breathe over 11,000 litres of air per day. So obviously we want to make sure that air is good quality and isn’t doing us any harm by reducing toxins, pollution and fine dust in the air we breathe.

In the UK, it is estimated that up to 50% of all illnesses are either aggravated by the home or can be attributed to the home environment. According to The World Health Organisation (WHO), in 2016, household air pollution was responsible for 3.8 million deaths or 7.7% of global mortality. This is simply shocking considering that our home environment is meant to be a safe haven.

Indoor air quality is particularly important if, like me, you suffer from allergies. I am asthmatic and have rather severe animal allergies. I am also allergic to dust and I have hayfever. Obviously, I try to avoid the things that trigger my allergies, but tiny airborne particles can prove tricky to avoid.

Because of this, I have been looking at and researching indoor air purifiers to see how they might help me to deal with these allergies, especially as hayfever season is approaching.

Briiv particularly caught my eye due to its compact size and its aesthetic appeal. When I think of air purifiers I normally think of quite ugly, very techy, large appliances that would take up a lot of space and look a bit ugly in the room. Briiv isn’t like that at all. In fact, when I first wrote about it I likened it to more of a designer terrarium.

How Does Briiv Work?

Briiv harnesses the power of plants to purify the air that we breathe. We have all heard how good it is to fill our homes with plants due to their air-purifying properties. I love plants and have many of them at home, mostly for their capacity to boost mental wellbeing, but also for their air-purifying abilities. But my flat is small and I can only have so many plants.

Luckily though, briiv is as powerful as 3,043 medium size houseplants. This means you can enjoy the air-purifying benefits of having plants in your home without the hassle of watering them and keeping them alive.

Briiv uses three layers to purify the air, each one specially designed to capture air particles. Large particles are captured by moss and coconut and the fine matrix filter captures the really small parts. Briiv will effectively improve the air quality in a 36m² (387ft²) living space in just one hour.

How Easy is it To Use the Briiv Air Purifier?

When I unboxed the briiv air purifier I was really happy to see that there were not that many component parts. Being a bit of a technophobe I do always worry about putting things together and working out how they function. However, I was very pleasantly surprised.

I simply had to remove the briiv air purifier from the box, plug it in, and empty the bag of moss into the glass dome and we were away. There is no bulky instruction manual, but you can use the QR code on the leaflet to access the digital manual which was is extremely straightforward and precise.

A touch-sensitive interface can be found on the front of the device, but it also operates via touchless sensors so you can simply wave your hand in front of it and it will activate and light up.

There are four different speed settings to choose from depending on the clean air delivery rate that you desire. The + and – symbols increase and decrease the fan speed. At the lowest speed, the briiv air purifier is extremely quiet, almost imperceptible. At the top speed, it is particularly noisy and I would say it would be difficult to hold a conversation with this in the background.

There is a 1hr hour filter cycle, which is indicated by the illuminated 1 on the interface. This will set briiv running for an hour before it switches itself off. This is a great idea if you want to run it at full speed to refresh the air before you get home, before you go to bed, or whilst you are cleaning, so it can capture any disturbed dust and VOCs.

If you want to activate the briiv air filter remotely, there is an app that you can download to control the device via the internet.

Can I Buy Replacement Air filters for briiv?

The fact that the briiv air purifier is sustainable and made from natural materials is obviously a big plus. However, what about the actual filters inside? Standard air filters cannot be recycled. 6000 tonnes of HEPA filters are sent to landfill every year, which will take millennia to decompose. 15,000,000 air filters were purchased in 2019 which need to be replaced every 6-8 months.

The briiv filters will last up to twelve months, and the nano matrix component will need to be replaced every three months. As the filters are made from natural materials they will simply biodegrade over time.

You can purchase replacement filter packs from the briiv website. At the time of writing, they cost £34.99 for a pack that will last a year.

Where to Buy the briiv Air Purifier?

The briiv air purifier is available online at the briiv website.

How Much Does briiv Cost?

At the time of writing the briiv air purifier retails at £299.00. Then as mentioned above it will cost you £34.99 a year for the replacement filters. The running costs are extremely low. Briiv is low-powered via USB, using just 5V to operate. Over the course of a year, the estimated electricity spend is just £2.

Briiv Air Purifier Review

All-in-all, I was very impressed with the briiv air purifier. It looks great, its natural, sustainable and eco-friendly credentials are impressive. It’s compact and light-weight meaning it is easy to move around and won’t be too noticeable wherever you place it.

I like the fact that it isn’t expensive to run and that the replacement filters are made from 100% renewable and natural materials.

It is quiet on the lowest setting but really quite noisy on the highest so I would use this strategically if I needed to purify a small room extremely quickly. The 1hr boost function is incredibly useful and the fact that this can be activated via the app is very practical.

I think we can consider my briiv air purifier review a success! As usual, please leave me any comments that you may have about my briiv air purifier review below and don’t forget to pin this post for later.

Whether you’re renting or buying, there are many criteria to watch for when touring a new home. In fact, you might be so concerned with ticking the boxes on your home checklist that smaller issues, like inconveniently placed electrical outlets, go unnoticed. To be sure, outlet placement shouldn’t be a dealbreaker, but once you’re arranging your space, it can make installing furniture, electronics, and appliances a chore, and also result in unsightly and unsafe cords being stretched across the room (a concern for human and pet parents!).

Thankfully, there’s a simple solution: The Sleek Socket, a pencil-thin cover for electrical outlets that hides unattractive cords while keeping the outlet completely usable. Backed by over 11,000 Amazon reviews, and approximately 9,000 five-star ratings, this gadget is, as one reviewer noted, a “small item [that] makes a BIG difference.” Even better? It’s currently 20 percent off for Prime Day (just click the coupon on the product page).

Here’s how it works: First, plug the Sleek Socket cover into the top plug on your outlet. A thin white wire leads from the socket cover to a power strip, which is where all of your plugs will go before being tucked away behind a small appliance, large piece of furniture, or another item. Every Sleek Socket includes an adhesive kit to securely fasten the white wire to the wall and create a neat, streamlined look. And since the Sleek Socket sits flat against the outlet, it allows you to position furniture flush against the wall.

“I used it behind my bed as we have an adjustable bed and every time I would raise it, it would hit the plugs in the outlet and pull them out,” said an Amazon reviewer. “I could not come up with a solution until I found the Sleek outlet! Its amazing! So easy to set up. I even bought another one for my family room. Hides all of the ugly cords.”

The Sleek Socket is especially ideal for renters who can’t make permanent changes to their space. “I am a renter so putting a huge hole in the wall to hide my wires was not going to happen,” said another happy customer. “After searching for something that can help with the look of the wires in my living room I am glad to have come across this socket! I’m extremely happy with the look and the adhesive works really good.”

Parents of young children may also find the Sleek Socket useful in nurseries and playrooms. It doubles as a safety feature to keep curious hands away from dangerous outlets and is a suitable substitute for plastic socket covers. One parent installed it behind their child’s crib in the nursery, and found it to be the perfect solution. “We didn’t want to have to run an extension cord across the room to have his sound machine, baby monitor and humidifier plugged in next to his crib,” they said. “We are thrilled with our purchase and so glad we don’t have to worry about fingers in electrical outlets at the moment.”

The Sleek Socket is safety certified and available in three-foot, six-foot, and eight-foot options, as well child– and pet-specific models. While the company recommends measuring your outlets first to ensure the best fit, they also sell universal covers if you’re unable or unwilling to bust out the measuring tape.

Why You Need the Kami Indoor Home Security Camera

Why You Need the Kami Indoor Home Security Camera

Since I opened my coworking space in Totnes, it quickly became clear that I need some kind of security system just so that I can monitor who is coming and going. I already have the Hive system in place and use the door sensors and smart plugs for the lighting and heating. Initially, I thought this would be adequate but then I realised that without being able to see who had opened the door, it wasn’t all that helpful to me.

I had a situation where the Hive door sensors alerted me to the fact that someone had entered the space at 20:30 one evening when we were closed. I had no idea who it was so I jumped in the car and headed straight here to catch the intruder. It’s a 20 minute journey though so unsurprisingly, by the time I had got here, the intruder had gone. However, the offices did smell particularly clean and it was then that I remembered that the cleaner comes in on Tuesday evenings. So that was a wasted journey and a lot of unnecessary stress.

A Simple Indoor Home Security Camera

So I started to look into a simple camera system that I could plug in and have it monitor the space when I am not here. It was luckily at this time that I received an email about reviewing one of these cameras. Kami cameras provide smart AI-driven security and home cameras and their products looked like the exact thing I had in mind.

I was sent the Kami Indoor 360 Camera which retails at £54.99 on their website. It looked like just the thing to enable me to see what was going on in the office when I’m not there. This nifty little bit of kit features 360° rotation and AI-driven movement detection and follow-up. The Kami Indoor Camera detects people (or pets if you are using it at home) and keeps them in the field of view as they continue to move. This means I can use one camera to monitor the whole office. When movement is detected I then receive an alert to my smartphone with a short video clip of the detected motion allowing me to stay up-to-date with who’s coming and going. No more covert cleaning operations!

You can upgrade your cloud storage so you can keep your recordings safe which would be really useful if you wanted to monitor your office throughout the day, but as I’m here every day and can monitor it in person, I haven’t needed to do this. the short 6 second clip I receive is more than adequate for my needs.

Ease of Installation

At first, I was getting alerts all the time and it took me a little while to work out that you can set the camera to home mode. In this mode, you don’t get any notifications which is perfect for when you are in the office (or at home) and can easily see what is going on.

One of the main things that attracted me to the Kami Indoor 360 Camera was the ease of installation. It was a simple case of downloading the Kami Home app, activating my account and pairing the camera. The cameras simply plug into the wall using a standard plug or USB cable.

Two-Way Audio

The camera also has two-way audio so you can talk to people in the office when you are not there. So if I wanted to ask the cleaner to do something extra for example, I could just talk to her when she arrived (although that would probably freak her right out unless I told her the camera has this functionality beforehand).

I’ve been using the Kami Indoor Home Security Camera for at least six months now and I have been really impressed with it. It meets all my needs and gives me a much better sense of security knowing that my business premises are safe when I am not there. In fact, I was so impressed with the camera that I received from Kami for this review that I actually bought a second camera myself for the smaller second office. And I absolutely haven’t regretted it.

An Indoor Home Security Camera that Delivers Peace of Mind

But this isn’t just a useful little device for businesses. It would be a great addition to a home as well. You can use it to make sure that your home is secure while you are away on holiday. For example, checking in to make sure the neighbour who promised to feed your cat is popping in regularly. You could set it up in the nursery to keep an eye on your baby as it could alert you to noises and movement so you know when your precious little bundle has awoken from their nap. You could even use it to keep an eye on older kids playing in another room. There are just so many useful ways that the Kami indoor home security camera can give you peace of mind.
