Sofa experts from Furniture Village, one of Britain’s top furniture retailers, analysed data to discover the top sofa styles being searched for by buyers in 2022…and some of the results might surprise you!
Top Sofa Style Trends
1. Chesterfield sofa
Coming in at number 1 for the the top sofa style trend is the classic Chesterfield sofa. This style oozes class and glamour, it’s sophisticated, has high rolled arms, beautiful leather tufted upholstery and a structured back. It’s a sofa style that works well in so many interior designs, from modern and industrial, to cosy retro and vintage.
2. Chaise lounge
At number two was the chaise lounge (which surprised us!). This practical and elegant upholstered sofa is similar to a long reclining chair. Traditional chaise lounges tend to be more of a sofa for one, rather than two or more, but you can get modern couch designs with a chaise longue style end that can seat several people.
3. Sectional sofa
A sectional sofa is a versatile and comfortable multi-piece couch with joined sections for sitting and lounging on. You can customise sectional sofas into the arrangement that works best for you, making them highly practical.
4. Knole sofa
The Knole sofa style came in as the fourth most popular couch. This compact and regal sofa features a concave front, high back and dropped arms.
5. Mid-century modern sofa
At number five in the top sofa style trends is the classic mid-century modern sofa. This sofa style is characterised by clean lines, a rectangular silhouette and tapered legs, making it a minimalist and simplistic choice.
6. Camelback sofa
The Camelback sofa proved to be the sixth most popular search. This sofa style boasts generous curves – it has a curved back, single or double arch, exposed legs and rolled arms.
7. Tuxedo sofa
The beautifully streamlined Tuxedo sofa features straight, upholstered arms that are the same height as the loose back cushions.
8. English roll arm sofa
The English roll arm sofa made the list too. This is a couch with effortless charm and features distinctive roll arms, a sloped back and deep comfortable seats.
9. Lawson sofa
The Lawson sofa is modern and comfortable. It has a three-cushion seat design, with soft back cushions and setback rolled arms.
10. Cabriole sofa
Finally, at number 10 in the top sofa style trends is the Cabriole sofa. This sofa is the ultimate in retro style. It has a compact look, with arms and back sections that offer a seamless design and lovely exposed legs.
According to the data, the standout winners of the top sofa style trends for 2022 are cosy and comfortable couches. The designs that have seen the biggest increases in searches are the pieces of furniture that are designed for relaxing on and putting your feet up. The Chesterfield is a design classic that’s renowned for its space and comfort – you can really stretch out on this sofa! – and it’s available in leather or fabric choices.
The number of searches for comfy sofas such as the English roll arm and Sectional sofa had also more than doubled since 2019. These particular sofas are perfect for lounging on, chilling out and napping. Sectional sofas are a great choice for family living rooms, as they can provide multiple seats for the whole family.
Glamorous and elegant couches still scored in the top 10 sofa style trends, but they’re not quite as frequently searched for as other styles. It seems the Brits put practical comfort above opulence in their living rooms!
