Sometimes, you have to actually experience better quality bedding to know you’d been doing it all wrong. I learned that firsthand after investing in Brooklinen’s Classic Cotton Percale Sheets — one of the brand’s most popular sheet sets and the best overall percale set on our Best List. Made from long-staple cotton with a percale weave, these sheets were made to mimic that hotel-style sleep experience you typically only get when vacationing somewhere fancy. Not only do these sheets totally live up to the hype, but they’ve single-handedly raised the bar for how I shop for bedding… and I’ll never go back.
Back in my broke college student days, I never really put much thought into the type of sheets I’d buy. Any time I needed to replace my worn out sheets, I’d browse the aisles of my favorite discount store looking for sheets that suited my color preference and my wallet. A complete queen-sized set under $40? Deal! It was in my shopping cart in no time. Not only was I super cheap when it came to sheets, but I also didn’t give much thought to the quality of the material. If the label said they were cooling sheets, I believed it without researching which fabric the sheets were made of. Big mistake. Huge.
After reading tons of positive reviews on Brooklinen’s Classic Core Sheet Set, I became convinced it was finally time to be an adult about my bedding selection and invest a little more money on sheets that would not only last, but get softer and cozier over time. I chose the set in the Window Pane pattern. I hadn’t always been a white sheet enthusiast, but the simplistic look of this design actually made my bed look cozier. “Off to a great start already,” I thought.
As for the feel of the sheets, I noticed an immediate transformation after washing them for the first time. They were initially a little stiff right out of the package — which is not always a cause for concern when it comes to percale — but felt airy, soft, and crisp when I removed them from the dryer. Putting them on the bed was a breeze, thanks to the convenient “long side” and “short side” labels on the fitted sheet. Seriously, where had these sheets been all my life?
Though I have since bought and tested many well-made cotton sheets from several other brands, I have no qualms about stamping the Brooklinen classic percale sheets as my all-time favorite. With a 270 thread count, these sheets are light and completely breathable, making them ideal for hot summer nights. And while the sheets were already soft to the touch, they’ve only gotten better with each wash, developing a sort of lived-in quality that makes you want to lounge in them all day. The set truly makes getting out of bed a challenge, which speaks to how darn comfortable they are. I no longer have to wait until vacation to get that luxurious, restful sleep I thought only existed with hotel bedding.
