A well-styled space is all about creating little moments.
As we approach warmer summer days, we want our homes to feel laid-back, lived-in, and layered with warm hues, romantic motifs, and interesting textures reminiscent of sun-soaked lazy afternoons.
On the set of our ’22 McGee & Co. Summer Catalogue, we got to play with some of our favorite pieces from the new collection, styling every corner to reflect how we want to refresh our homes this season. Scroll through for some inspiration and a breakdown of each look + how you can re-create it in your own space.
This console look is all about layering and balancing a mix of shapes and sizes to create an unexpected, lived-in feeling. A statement piece of artwork makes for a perfect focal point above a large piece of furniture, but a second piece hung to the right above the chair and another stacked to the side brings a hint of thoughtful asymmetry. Playing with scale when styling a surface by adding in levels of artwork, lighting, stacked books, and small decorative or functional pieces can quickly bring any look to life.
Try this at home: When mixing artwork, try mixing the types of pieces you incorporate for a curated look when layering artwork. In this vignette, we have a dreamy cloudy landscape, a beautifully illustrated piece by artist Blakely Little, and a vintage portrait of Bob Dylan — each works together but is different enough to not distract from the other.
White Textured Ceramic Vase
We love adding a console table behind a sofa to provide a visual barrier and separate the living space, but those pieces can be puzzling to style. In this look, we kept it fresh and light for the season with stacked books, a marble tray, structured lighting, and summery florals.
Try this at home: If you have space under a console behind the sofa, adding seating pieces or ottomans there can be a great way to add function and interest, or even create a subtle desk moment!
Simple Stripe Magnifying Glass
Stacked artwork is one of our favorite ways to create a moment on empty wall space and draw the eye in, but who said you couldn’t do it on a window, too? In this vignette, we love how these two floral pieces add some character to the beautiful windows and draw attention to the view.
Try this at home: Hang artwork in unexpected places by overlapping them on top of built-ins or on windows!
Ribbed Wine Glasses (Set of 4)
Bordered Linen Napkin (Set of 4)
Lilia Flatware (Set of 5)
On the coffee table, we kept it simple with florals, a large vase, and vintage candlesticks for the ultimate cool-girl flare. Working with a minimal color palette to draw attention to the rest of the space pushed us to add different levels and textures that almost feel like an extension of the table.
Try this at home: If you have a round or oval-shaped coffee table, think about styling it in sections to center the look. Try stacks of books, large structure vases, boxes, and pairings of decor pieces to break it up.
Rounded Terracotta Handled Jug
White Ceramic Duo Candle Holder
Sandstone Taper Candles (Set of 12)
Pembroke Hand-Knotted Rug
A vintage gold mirror provides a focal point on the mantel, while a layered piece of artwork and a large terracotta vase fill in the sides. One of our favorite new artwork pieces adds a feeling of summery nostalgia to the vignette, and a decorative stone head adds to the romantic aesthetic.
Try this at home: Instead of spreading all of your decor pieces evenly on a surface like a mantel or a furniture piece, pair them in small groupings for a layered look.
Rounded Dual Handled Vase
We styled a mix of functional pieces in the dining built-in, like stacked plates, bowls, and pitchers, with decorative accents like large vases, artwork, and books to add a curated feeling to the look. A metal easel props up a summery vintage painting to soften the look and add a palette to build upon throughout the rest of the space.
Try this at home: When you’re styling a built-in, especially in a dining or kitchen space, put your pretty serveware on display in groupings of two or three to fill in the space and allow for easy access to your most-used pieces.
Rectangle Oak Wood Bread Board
Ribbed Tall Drinking Glasses (Set of 4)
Ribbed Short Drinking Glasses (Set of 4)
Rounded Dual Handled Vase
This cozy window seat called for layered mixed and matched pillows, a charming woven sconce, and accent decor for a simple yet elevated look. Next to an armchair and a round ottoman, the window seat area feels like a separate living space in the primary bedroom. We incorporated a blend of florals, stripes, and textures on the throws to add a feeling of coziness to the space with a few of our favorite new pillows.
Try this at home: You don’t need a window seat and built-ins to create a cozy reading nook. If you have a space to fit a chair, a light, and a small side table, you can make the most out of any corner in the bedroom.

Good design is about making the most of every corner in your home…
No matter how insignificant that area by the window of your bedroom or opening in the hallway may seem, sometimes giving those spaces a little lift can ignite design magic.
One of our favorite ways to bring more form and function to a design is adding a cozy reading nook. Not only do reading nooks provide extra seating space and charm, but they are pretty simple to re-create in your own home.
Even if you don’t have the perfect spot for an added window seat or built-in in your home, you can still create a reading nook within your living space or your bedroom. All you need to turn an unused corner into a cozy reading nook is a seating space or chair, a light for function, and a nearby surface to set drinks or books down.

Greenery has the ability to make any vignette come to life.
We use greenery in almost every room we style, and whether or not you consider yourself to have a green thumb, there are so many ways to incorporate greenery and make it work for your home and lifestyle.
While there are no “rules” when it comes to how to style greenery, we like to approach adding greenery in a way that enhances but doesn’t take away from the home’s design. Focusing on a few plants per space helps draw the eye in without taking away from a beautiful furniture piece or architectural element.
If you’re looking for ideas on how to style greenery in your home, keep scrolling to see room-by-room inspiration!
No. 1: Greenery in the entryway
The entryway is a great place to introduce greenery as a styling element in your home. If you have a console table, try using a plant or large sculptural branches to add in some life or reflect the changing seasons!
A potted tree can also be a great way to fill in negative space and add height and structure to your entryway look.
No. 2: Greenery in the great room
In the great room, we like to focus on bringing greenery in to enhance the styling of built-ins or adding height through a tree. Since the great room is often where some of our favorite design elements and pieces live, we take an approach of sprinkling greenery here and there to draw the eye in.

No. 3: Greenery in the kitchen + dining room
The key to making greenery feel at home in the kitchen is to think about what might naturally live there. We love using mini olive trees or herb plants here as they typically blend into the space better than other types of house plants.
In the dining room, large potted trees can go a long way in bringing life and height to the space, making it feel cozier and connected to nature.
No. 4: Greenery in bedroom spaces
We love using plants or florals on nightstands or dressers in the bedroom. Where we have enough space, incorporating a tree in a corner reading nook can complete the look like nothing else!
Bonus tip: When picking out greenery for a home, we like to consider what is native to the project’s surroundings. Plants native to your area will naturally blend into your surroundings and views, and they will have a better chance of thriving in their climate, too!
No. 5: Greenery in office spaces
Live greenery is said to increase productivity, so adding plants or florals to office spaces is always a good idea. Greenery also has the ability to soak up a lot of visual noise that cords and other office supplies often bring.

No. 6: Greenery in utility spaces
In rooms like laundry rooms and mudrooms where styling can feel puzzling, greenery can go a long way in softening them and bringing them to life. If your laundry room or mudroom feels like it needs a little something, try styling a plant next to your sink or a mini tree on the floor to fill in a blank space!

The pieces
We started with thinking about the layout of the room and how we could best place each furniture piece to encourage conversation, comfort, and ease of movement throughout the space. In this look, we created a square around the console table and focal point of the room, centered by a round coffee table.
The sofa anchors the seating look, and the two chairs and a bench seat sit parallel to each other to break up the shapes in the room and bring a more relaxed feeling to the space.
Styling a bench in a living space is a great way to bring in extra seating while maintaining a lightweight visual appeal that allows the area to feel open and relaxed. Plus, if you have a window with a great view or are designing an open-concept space, a backless seating option won’t block your viewpoint!
This textural console table was a perfect focal point for the layout of this room, and we love how versatile it is in form and function. In a smaller seating area, it could be styled under a TV or artwork like we incorporated it here. In a large entryway, it would be the perfect drop-zone and anchoring piece to welcome guests.
