Chic and sophisticated in its clean modernity, this pristine home design puts family life through a serene filter. Designed by Darya Maiorova, this family home interior features soft upholstery and rugs that are bravely light to uplift an open plan living space. Black accents are used to add depth and gloss to the neutral surroundings, across a statement kitchen backsplash and black accented window reveals. The kids’ bedrooms themselves are light, crisp and stylish, with bespoke kids’ desk designs and decorative shelving walls. The parental room is a place for restful recuperation from the children, with its own quiet workspace. Bathroom inspiration comes by way of contemporary vanity units and boldly contrasting black fixtures.
Reuleaux-triangle nesting coffee tables overlap at the centre of the peaceful, light modern living room arrangement, adding a moment of smooth wood tone.
Two open ended modular sofas shape a connected, free-flowing layout. Dark accent cushions punctuate their light upholstery.
At the other side of the large area rug, a modern TV stand is flanked by windows on either side. Pale drapes contrast with black painted window reveals and colour coordinated radiators.
Two fresh white lounge chairs form a third wall of seating, teamed with two darkly contrasting small side tables.
A small tree has been introduced behind the lounge area to incorporate a touch of nature, a splash of enlivening greenery, and an element of elegant height.
The kitchen and dining area unfold across the back of the open concept. Wood effect panels encase a beautifully curved feature wall at the end of the kitchen run, which echoes a curvaceous microcement wall on the opposite side of the walkway.
The small side table at this end of the lounge has a rounded silhouette to complement the curved walls.
A black backsplash and countertop cuts through the wood effect kitchen, disrupting the smooth, warm aesthetic with a dramatic sweep of deep shadow.
A round pedestal dining table draws upon the black accent theme, and introduces en vogue ribbed texture. Four modern white dining chairs encircle the black dining table with moments of light relief. Decorative bowls arrange a stylish table centrepiece.
The kitchen “backsplash” is actually a set of shallow smoked glass-fronted cabinets, which reveal softly lit glimpses of flatware, coffee mugs and kitchen appliances. The surrounding wooden cabinets extend all the way to the ceiling line to capitalise on vertical space and to build a clean, streamlined finish.
Modern linear wall lights cast a warm glow at either side of the headboard design, where integrated switches and sockets are embedded directly into the cushioned upholstery.
Contemporary bedside units carry curves into the scheme.
A large indoor plant is included here in the bedroom too, growing a sense of serenity in this adult haven away from the children of the household.
The black window reveal treatment is repeated here, giving the light bedroom greater depth and interest. Sheer voiles breezily frame the large windows.
A third linear wall light illuminates a bedroom workspace.
The bespoke desk design is expertly shaped to follow the inner curve of the wall.
An understated modern desk chair accompanies the unique floating desk.
Beside the bed, a door leads into a well-proportioned walk-in closet. Thin LED strips highlight the edges of a smart closet system that’s stacked with shelves, clothes rails and built-in chests of drawers.
In the minimalist master bathroom, a unique bathroom sink crosses a custom cut floor-to-ceiling vanity mirror. A black bathroom faucet protrudes from the glass.
A small rustic stool adds a natural touch to the shower area.
A frameless shower screen leaves the bathroom window completely unobstructed.
The shared kids’ room is given a child-friendly twist with a cool space-themed wall mural. A single channel tufted headboard design links twin beds together beneath a black track light.
A light bedroom rug links the beds together at the foot.
Flush-fitting, frameless interior doors extend all the way to the ceiling line throughout the home.
Decorative wall shelves dot a modern pattern across the window wall.
Twin wardrobes flank a kid’s study area, where more storage is revealed from behind sliding wooden doors.
Black paintwork around the bedroom window draws attention to a small, cosy window seat above the radiator.
The second kids’ space in this home is a single bedroom with a gentle touch of colour. A cushioned wall panel extends the kids’ upholstered bed across the length of the room, creating a cosy backing.
Two square ottomans provide occasional seating for friends or siblings.
A small wall sconce shines focussed reading light over the pillows.
The kids’ desk design in this room works double duty as a bedside unit. An icy blue finish accentuates its attractively rounded drawer shape.
The pale blue accent is repeated in a floating storage unit on the adjacent wall, and across a series of decorative pegboard shelves.
Kids wall art extends the blue palette.
The family bathroom is geared toward sibling harmony with a double sink vanity unit. Wicker laundry baskets tuck away underneath.
Wood panels conceal the toilet cistern.
Microcement neatly encases the fitted bathtub, merging it with the coordinating walls.
Black bathroom fittings stand out darkly against the pale wall treatment.
Wood panelling frames the end of the hallway.

While these two distinctive home interiors differ in scale and colour palette, they find common ground in sleek modern decor, industrial accent walls, and open concept bedroom designs. The first of our two featured home designs is a soothing pale grey interior with rugged exposed brickwork and a slatted wall bedroom design directly off the living room. In colourful contrast, our second featured home interior comes alive with teal and bright yellow accent pieces that warm and uplift cool concrete industrial feature walls. A glass wall bedroom design opens up on two sides to fully meld it with the neighbouring lounge and kitchen diner spaces.
Located in Kyiv, Ukraine, this 83 square metre apartment features an open plan lounge, kitchen diner combo. The soft grey modern sofa melds tranquilly with colour matched living room walls.
A slatted wall clearly divides the bedroom from the main living space without obstructing its view altogether. The open concept increases the sense of space and light in the home, and achieves an easy flow. A rugged brick feature wall builds an aged, industrial effect across one side of the room, drawing focus to the TV.
The dark and sculptural lamp duo by the end of the sofa are Muffins floor lamps by Dan Yeffet for Brokis.
A light grey round rug almost disappears against the smooth grey microcement floor.
An arrangement of two small side tables and a rustic coffee table lay down solid black accents across the sea of grey.
A wide kitchen island draws across the open plan living room, with a dining table extension taking advantage of natural light by the window.
The dining table extension can be retracted over the sink in the kitchen island when not in use. This shift brings prep surface area close to the hob and clears floor space when the kitchen diner is not in use. A push down faucet descends under the cover.
A lengthy floor lamp stretches across the multifunctional island countertop.
A smaller version of the floor lamp draws the same linear aesthetic across the lounge area.
Open kitchen shelving displays organised rows of flatware, wine glasses and serving bowls.
Inside the master bedroom, a floor bed design incorporates an upholstered bedside unit. On the other side, a small side table is teamed with the Sampei floor lamp designed by Davide Groppi and Enzo Calabrese.
The industrial vibe is dominant inside the bathroom. The rugged, white-washed brick wall treatment we originally encountered in the living room now creates a feature wall behind the tub. Microcement floods the floor in here too, creating smooth contrast with the aged brickwork.
An illuminated bathroom mirror emits a fresh white glow onto the vertical tile behind the vanity. Black grout accentuates the precise tilework.
A slender floor lamp leans elegantly toward the bathtub, providing focussed reading light for long soaks.
Black fixtures complement the unique black marble bathtub.
The modern bathroom fixtures and Sampei floor lamp create sleek contrast with the rough brickwork.
Inside the kids’ room, an upholstered kids’ bed provides a soft landing for pillow fights.
Modern wood effect wall panelling builds a cosy wraparound with hidden storage spaces.
A Baymax plush toy leans up against a built-in bookcase, which is given contrast with black shelves & backing material.
A kid’s study area occupies the industrial style wall. A floating desk cuts cleanly across the brickwork.
This 57 square metre home in Moscow, Russia, is styled with raw concrete feature walls and colourful accents.
A round coffee table smoothly fills in the centre of the small space, without any sharp corners to knock into.
A short, central wall has been installed to accommodate the TV set and a floating tv stand. The TV wall’s small stature only partially obscures the glass wall bedroom design, enabling plentiful light share.
The plush grey area rug echoes the tone and shading of the living room’s concrete feature wall.
Following the L-shaped living room layout around the corner of the glass wall bedroom design, we come to the kitchen diner.
Directional kitchen pendant lights descend on a walnut dining bar, which achieves a floating effect on a transparent support leg.
Deep teal paintwork darkens the home entryway, whilst a small pouf provides a cheerful pop of bright yellow.
Floor-to-ceiling frameless mirrors climb behind the pouf and beside the entry door, increasing the sense of space in the small foyer.
A teal headboard wall continues the cohesive colour palette inside the bedroom. A grey upholstered platform bed carries the soothing grey element.
An extended headboard design fills the width of the room, and provides a mount for a floating bedroom vanity table.
The teal accent continues over the ceiling, fashioning a darkened, cosy cocoon. The glass walls of the bedroom open on two sides to create one square open living space.
A bright yellow vanity stool pulls up to the wall mounted makeup table. Industrial style pendant lights fall in front of the round mirror.
A walk-in wardrobe stands just off the home entryway, with space to stow away some cleaning equipment.
Yellow accents bring mellow warmth to the bathroom through a statement vanity unit and stunning, patterned wall tiles.

Abstract, linear volumes stack to form a crisp modern 4266 square foot home for a family of five in Bangalore, India. Created by Crest Architects, the unique angular form stands out sharply against a grey, densely populated metropolis. Clean white concrete and rich wood cladding encase a dwelling based upon the ancient architectural science of Vaastu, which embraces the benefits of nature. The interior spaces are simple, spacious and designed around two landscaped courtyards, each with skylights that flood sunlight into the openly interconnected floors of the house. The natural greenery brings a valuable piece of the outdoors inside of the introverted city abode, with trees that draw the eye upward through the impressive void.
An illusion of levitating masses is achieved with slits and openings around the modern home exterior, which gives the building its name, “Floating Walls”.
The visually engaging structure is defined from the densely populated locality by sloping white concrete walls that push forth from the front and side. Rich wood cladding appears warm and inviting under the glow of exterior lights.
The tonal timber and clear glass elements juxtapose the solid white walls.
Unconventional cutaways have been staggered across the building to admit natural light and outside views whilst maintaining ultimate privacy.
Sun seeking plants spring from behind the concealing walls of the home, hinting at the nature centric design that awaits inside.

A unique glass coffee table is elevated by an eye-catching area rug. A chic magazine holder complements an Eames style armchair.
Wood clad feature walls echo the outer aesthetic of the house. Tan chairs continue the rich earthy tone to the dining area.
A Buddha statue designates an area of worship within the first landscaped courtyard design on the ground floor. A temple tree emerges from behind the Puja, drawing the eye up through the multi-story void to a skylight above.
The indoor plant is fed sunlight from a large skylight. A glass wall admits the wash of sunlight into the neighbouring bedroom.
The skylight is positioned directly above the tree inhabited courtyard on the ground floor.

The glass wall bedroom is decorated with an energised contrast of crimson red and royal blue accent pieces. Fabric panels are installed to provide privacy when required.
Recessed shelving niches are lined with pops of red.
Each bedroom in the home is given its own unique identity.
A designer bedroom chair and a rug define a small lounge area inside this beautiful bedroom.
Intertwined indoor and outdoor spaces filter in natural light and ventilation.
Up on the second floor there is a guest bedroom and a semi-open terrace with a kitchenette.
A traditional load bearing and counterweight system has been employed to dramatically cantilever a series of 2″ thick Sadahalli slabs at a screen wall by the front entrance.
