To say my posture has taken a beating since the beginning of the pandemic would be an understatement — and I know I’m not the only one. In fact, there’s even a name for it now: pandemic posture (this refers to poor posture from slouching at a desk, couch, or bed as a result of working from home). So I did what most of us have done over the last two years and created a dedicated workspace in my home, complete with everything from a monitor I could keep at eye level to a posture pillow to help keep me aligned. Unfortunately, I was still in pain, and deep down I knew why: my chair. While stylish and cozy, my office chair was anything but ergonomic. If I really wanted to get serious about my posture (and stop the consistent back and neck pain I was suffering from), I needed to find the perfect office chair — and boy did I! Let’s talk about the All33 BackStrong C1 Chair.

Let’s make one thing clear from the get-go — this is not your average office chair. Made with your back in mind, the All33 BackStrong C1 Chair is a state-of-the-art chair designed to give you the best posture possible. Created with the help of celebrity chiropractor Dr. Dennis Colonello, the idea behind it is simple: Keep all 33 of your vertebrae aligned and moving as you sit, and your posture will improve. But how does this work? Well, with a little something called Sit in Motion technology.
Where other chairs feature a stationary seat, this chair’s seat independently pivots to promote movement. “The difference is in the pivot because it frees your pelvis to move naturally, the way it does when you walk,” shares Dr. Colonello. “So in addition to improving your posture, the design of the chair gets you moving, which gets your blood flowing, which in turn boosts energy levels while engaging and effortlessly strengthening your core.” With claims like that (and sights of the chair all over my social media feeds), I had high hopes for this chair, and I knew I had to test it.
The All33 BackStrong C1 arrived in one large box and in five separate pieces; I assembled it in less than 10 minutes, and let me tell you, she is a beauty. I like furniture that’s simple and sleek with a little bit of a retro vibe, so the rounded lines and easy-tilt armrests were a chic plus. It’s also covered in vegan leather (I got it in black, but it’s also available in red and tan), which definitely adds to the luxe look. So it definitely passed the style test, but I still didn’t know if it lived up to the hype.
The first sit in this chair was different — good different. Not only did the lumbar support cradle my lower back, but I immediately noticed the effect of the pivoting seat. No matter how much I tried to slouch, I couldn’t! The pivoting seat would just tilt me back into place. I was instantly impressed and could already feel the pressure lessening on my lower back. But how would I feel in two months? Would its initial glow fade? Well, dear reader, I’m happy to report my feelings have only gotten better. I’ve noticed a tremendous decrease in lower back pain and even find myself sitting straighter in other chairs as a result. I still can’t believe it!
Okay, I know that the $999 price tag is a bit steep for some, but remember, this isn’t an accent chair we’re talking about. It’s an ergonomic office chair that can double as a health device. (All33 even offers a 60-day return policy, so you can see if it works for you.) Personally, when I take into account all of the doctor bills, chiropractor appointments, and pain management treatments I’ve invested in over the years, this chair is a no-brainer. After all, can you really put a price on good posture?

Figuring out a smart layout for a small living room can be quite a headache. Without some smart tricks and cleverly-designed furniture, the space you’re meant to relax and unwind in can quickly begin to feel cramped and cluttered. Enter: the swivel chair. This style has seen a huge resurgence recently, which is great news for small-space dwellers for a few reasons.

First, many swivel chairs are armless, making them ideal for the flow of people and pets around a living room. Second, being able to swivel around to look at something in another part of the room — like a guest, a TV, etc. — without having to move the position of your chair and block something else is a huge plus. Lastly, swivel chairs usually have a compact footprint, which is a no-brainer in tight spaces, as it allows you to fit more into your living room without feeling chaotic. Convinced yet? Here are a few on the market right now if you’re ready to swivel into your new seating!
A smart thing to do when you’re shopping for a small living room is to check out pieces of furniture that aren’t necessarily made for living rooms. This dining chair, for example, is wonderfully compact and would look great as an accent chair across from a sofa or in a little reading nook. The luxe linen upholstery is pretty swoon-worthy, and it’s also a performance fabric for those worried about stains and spills. When you’re only buying one chair (versus a bunch to surround a dining table), the splurgey price point won’t hurt your wallet as much, either.
Are you a fan of rattan? If so, you’re in luck: This woven swivel chair will add texture to any living room and comes with a cushion for added comfort. Pop a throw pillow on top for extra coziness.
If you want something that brings a little glam into your home, this peacock blue velvet barrel chair is for you. It’s also very slim, so if you’re extra tight on space, it won’t take up too much valuable real estate in your living room.

This statement swivel would look gorgeous in a room full of neutrals. If you’re a master pattern-mixer though, try going big and bold by adding it to a maximalist room already brimming with color.
At $300, this swivel chair is a great deal that won’t break the bank. Thanks to its velvet beige upholstery, it would work well in lots of different styles of living rooms.
With a slimmer profile and almost 100 fabric options to choose from, this adorable swivel chair is the perfect small-space solution for those who want something semi-custom. Just keep in mind that it may take a bit to get it since they’re made to order.

Curves have a unique way of softening a room and although curved furniture is nothing but new, it is growing increasingly popular due to its manner of giving the eye a natural place to rest. Arguably, furniture that feels good is considerably important and curved interiors are proven to give off a relaxing, calming, and welcoming feel due to a softness and rounded organic appearance.

This trend for natural curves links back to biophilic design, where organic curved edges are reflected from the natural world. Borrowing elements from the outdoors gives this trend a natural way to incorporate organic texture in furniture made from materials such as wood, stone, and natural fibres. As can be seen in the image, the curve furniture allowed for the curved back chair to accompany the wooden table and rounded pouffe cushion, in a perfect combination for a calming environment stimulated by the natural world.
Curved sofas are just one of the many examples of using soft curves to instil a relaxing environment that therefore establishes a calming home that benefits mental and physical health. Our brains are drawn to the circular forms and curved lines that are associated with safety and calm and mirror the outside world. The increasing push for nature to become a part of our daily lives allows for the organic look of curved lines and soft edges to invite the impact of the creation of the natural, welcoming, familiar flow that is found in the environment despite the more rigid feel that can sometimes be found in other geometric spaces.
