Why does it seem like appliances always break in groups? One minute everything is fine, and the next your dishwasher starts acting up, your fridge is making a noise it definitely didn’t make before, and suddenly you’re Googling “is my oven supposed to smell like that?” When it rains, it pours — and replacing major appliances can get expensive fast. The good news is that this weekend is a genuinely great time to jump on deals for big upgrades and big savings. We found a ton of amazing discounts on ovens, fridges, dishwashers, and more, all happening at AJ Madison for Black Friday. Scroll down to shop our recommendations.

Cookies are nice any day of the year, but during the winter holiday season, they almost feel mandatory. Whether you spend every year baking cookies from scratch and decorating them with your family or just look forward to the holiday party you know always has an incredible cookie selection, pretty much everyone can appreciate these classic sweet treats.

Even if you’re not a natural baker, one easy way to level up your cookie game this year is by presenting your cookies in a festive tin instead of on a regular old plate or platter. This vintage-inspired one from IKEA is perfect — It’s a gift box, centerpiece, and practical storage container all in one!

What Is the IKEA VINTERFINT Tin with Lid?

You may recognize the IKEA VINTERFINT tin with lid from last year, and this year the tin has returned in a new playful holiday-themed pattern. It still has the same rectangular shape and size, measuring about three inches tall, 11 inches long, and eight inches wide. So, it’s small enough that you should be able to comfortably carry it in one hand, but big enough to contain a nice range of items. It’s made of painted tin-plated steel and retails for $6.99 per tin. One difference with this year’s VINTERFINT tin is that it’s just one tin, whereas last year’s was a set of two.

Why the VINTERFINT Tin Is So Nice

The VINTERFINT tin features  a lovely sort of vintage-inspired pattern. With the ornaments, gifts, holly, and candy canes, it’s instantly recognizable as a holiday tin. The simple, geometric imagery has a refreshingly playful look to it, making the tin look vintage as well as modern, while the dark green base adds an air of maturity.

Plus, since it’s just a tin, you can use it in so many ways. IKEA’s website says the VINTERFINT tin is “ideal for storing and serving cookies, dried fruit or snacks.” You could also fill it with stocking stuffer-esque trinkets and give the whole tin as a gift, or store art supplies for holiday card-making.

If you do want to go the cookie route, the IKEA VINTERFINT collection also includes an apron with a similar patterned design and festive cookie cutters in shapes like a star, tree, heart, and (my personal fave) a little cat.

These days, I only take long trips that require packing a suitcase about once a year. Because of that, I don’t spend much time looking at the luggage in my house, and when the time comes once again to lug them out and pack them up, it dawns on me. Oh, right: My suitcases are all pretty old. And aside from one teal-hued hard-shell roller, they’re all plain black. This becomes especially apparent at baggage claim, when I’m squinting at a sea of monochrome rectangles and feeling jealous of any pops of color I see.

As much as I’d like to treat myself to a luggage refresh, quality travel suitcases can be quite pricey. So, when I hear about luggage that looks nice, performs well, and won’t totally break the bank, I pay attention — and the latest brand to join the affordable suitcase game comes from none other than Drew Barrymore, who just dropped a collection of hardside luggage that’s simply, well, beautiful.

What Is the Beautiful by Drew Barrymore Luggage Collection?

Founded by the eponymous actress, Beautiful by Drew Barrymore originally came on the scene as a cookware brand. The brand has since expanded substantially; it now sells furniture, home decor, bedding, pet products, and now, lucky for me, luggage.

Beautiful’s first luggage collection is available at Walmart and consists of three different hardshell rolling suitcases with retractable handles. There’s a 20-inch carry-on suitcase and two suitcases (one 24-inch and one 28-inch) that are meant to be checked.

Shoppers can choose from three elegant colors — Porcini Taupe, Rose Pink, and Starry Night — but no matter what shade or size you go with, the interior of each suitcase prioritizes organization, containing “two compression straps, two expandable pockets perfect for shoes, two open pockets, and two zippered pockets for organized packing.” This is perfect for holiday travel — bringing back new gifts and dirty laundry can pose quite the conundrum — but also just regular weekend trips.

What Makes Beautiful By Drew Barrymore Luggage So Great

A celebrity-fronted brand could easily hike up its prices. However, the cost of Barrymore’s luggage line is actually quite reasonable, especially for pieces that will look chic and distinct coming down the carousel at baggage claim. (For comparison, a 28-inch checked bag from Samsonite retails for $149.99, while Beautiful’s is $109.)

The available colors are also quite nice to look at, and a lifetime of dark, drab suitcases makes me really appreciate the lighter shades and playful interior print. Plus, since you can get the whole three-piece set for under $300, it feels feasible to get one in each size for a true luggage refresh. Make your travels a bit easier by getting each one in the same color, or switch things up and try one of each shade. Hey, it might even get you excited about packing.

I Found the Perfect Linen Sheets For People Who Are Still On the Fence About Linen Sheets

I Found the Perfect Linen Sheets For People Who Are Still On the Fence About Linen Sheets

I am a linen fangirl. Ever since I discovered the magic of linen bedding 2.5 years ago, I haven’t gone back, and the obsession passion has extended to my clothing and decor, too. (I am writing this while wearing a linen dress.) The thing I love most about linen is that it actually does get better with time, rewarding those who lovingly put in the hours to use and take care of it. Really good linen can feel rough at first, and heavier than you might expect, but that just means it’ll last for a long time, getting softer and lighter as it’s used.

Of course, that also means it’s not for everyone. Some people don’t love how it feels, even after several washes, while others aren’t sold on the wrinkled appearance. But if you fall into that category, I am confident that I have found the solution: Kassatex’s Linen-Bamboo Sheets. While I usually stay away from linen blends (yes, I’m a big ol’ linen snob), I was immediately intrigued by the idea of a linen-bamboo blend. Both materials are eco-friendly and known for their cooling benefits, and bamboo has a super soft feel that could interact very nicely with the texture of linen.

The verdict? These sheets are kind of… perfect. They’re even softer than I imagined and feel a bit more substantial than other 100 percent linen sheets I’ve tried. (Alas, this is the problem with many popular linen sheets today: They’re lightweight and soft right out of the box, which means they might not be built to last long and could potentially be prone to tearing.) Kassatex’s sheets manage to be soft and substantial, combining all the best benefits of both linen and bamboo. They have a smoother texture than 100 percent linen bedding (so they aren’t as wrinkly, either), and although they’re slightly heavier, they’re still exceptionally airy and comfy.

These sheets are excellent if you’re one of those people who sleeps hot. Bamboo and linen are both breathable, moisture-repelling materials, and the lightweight feel means you’ll easily be comfortable all night. Not only that, but bamboo is also hypoallergenic and antimicrobial, making it ideal for those with sensitive skin. (And, um, technically you wouldn’t have to feel so bad about not washing your sheets every week.) Another bonus? Unlike other materials, bamboo is a fast-growing plant that can easily be cultivated using sustainable methods, making it a fantastic eco-friendly alternative to cotton. Similarly, the flax plant that linen comes from doesn’t require much water to harvest.

The only downside is the high price, which is pretty standard for linen bedding. Linen isn’t the easiest material to produce, thanks to the small geographic area where flax can grow and the difficulty of harvesting it to make linen. But, a splurge like this is worth it when you know they’ll last for year. And if you’re not quite ready to splurge on a whole new sheet set, take note that there’s also a cloud-like linen-bamboo duvet cover that’ll keep you comfy all year round.
