When I was growing up, one of my very favorite things to do — especially at Christmastime — was to head down to Chicago on the train to go to Michigan Avenue with my family. All the twinkling lights and window shopping would put me right in the holiday mood, and there was always one highlight I looked forward to — going to Neiman Marcus. It was fun to be up close and personal with labels I had only seen in magazines, and to this day, I know I’m not alone in thinking of Neiman Marcus as the holy grail of luxury department stores.
