An elegant modern furniture selection gives this 123 square metre apartment a chic and sophisticated aesthetic. Designed by Julya Chernova, colourful accent walls, curtains, and statement pieces infuse beats of bold personality. Along with the colourful interludes comes an explosion of energised pattern, in the form of botanical prints, geometric designs, and trendy terrazzo finishes. The combination of elements makes an interesting space that is welcoming and invigorating. We’ll also discover beautiful home lighting ideas, a cool bedroom design with a colour-blocked ceiling, plus practical layouts for small bathrooms and a compact kitchen. You can find the full floor plan for this home design at the end of the tour.
Green botanical wallpaper makes an instant impact in the living room, extending bold pattern behind the TV. A black sofa table splits the lounge from a formal dining area, and provides a place to display books and ornaments.
A tasselled living room rug lays a subtle tonal design in front of the grey sectional sofa, leaving focus on the botanical feature wall and matching green drapes.
Two large windows fill the living space with natural light. More daylight streams through a set of glazed doors that lead to the kitchen.
The lounge furniture arrangement is rounded out with a curved wicker chair design that complements a freestanding bookcase and a wooden media unit beneath the TV.
A set of display shelves decorate a blank wall beside the formal dining area. At the centre of the unit, a shallow storage cabinet opens to reveal a small writing desk.
A curved chair is teamed with the concealed home workspace. The stylish chair can be tucked into the corner of the room when the desk is not in use.
Two wicker pendant lights are paired above a wooden dining table and contrasting black dining chairs. The black and rattan chairs seat up to six people.
With the double doors at the back of the room open, the layout between the kitchen and the dining room becomes free flowing.
Beyond the fluted glass doors, a small kitchen table is used for casual dining purposes and coffee.
A dining room pendant light hangs low to the table, providing a visual anchor that separates it from the adjacent kitchen installation.
Walnut base cabinets and appliance housing units give the kitchen a rich tone. White wall cabinets give the kitchen a more open and spacious appeal.
The home entryway is cheerfully defined from the rest of the hallway by a trendy terrazzo floor treatment.
A small entryway table is teamed with an indoor plant and a couple of decorative mirrors to form an attractive vignette.
Inside the master bedroom, teal accents give the decor scheme wonderful depth.
An elegant grey upholstered bed is set against whimsical wallpaper. Teal wall sconces throw reading light over the pillows.
Sheer voiles drop from a ceiling mounted pelmet to exaggerate the height of the room.
Pale grey paintwork defines the doors.
A comfortable teal accent chair and a floor lamp make a cosy reading nook in the corner of the bedroom.
Silver drapes frame the window and complement the grey painted doors.
Moving on to the bathroom, we enter a strong, earthy yellow ochre colour scheme. Striking geometric tiles pattern the bathroom floor, creating a big design statement in the compact space.
The toilet cistern is boxed in by wooden panels that incorporate a cabinet above. In contrast, the neighbouring vanity unit carries a clean white finish with a luxurious white marble countertop. A round mirror is flanked by elegant wall sconces.
The geometric floor tiles carry on into the shower area to achieve an uninterrupted flow.
Fluted panels form a textural wet wall inside the shower enclosure. Recessed shelves hold toiletries conveniently to hand.
A small black towel radiator complements the tiled floor design. A gold faucet and cabinet hardware tie in with the golden wall colour.
This cool bedroom design features an unusual colour-blocked ceiling treatment, a bold geometric rug and pouf, and a neon light feature above the bed.
Built-in wardrobes camouflage into the white backdrop, beneath a yellow soffit that merges with the ceiling colour.
A simple white TV unit incorporates a small book nook for current reading material.
The simple upholstered bed design and mini bedside unit have a crisp Scandi vibe.
A balloon dog sculpture, inspired by the work of Jeff Koons, playfully adorns the top of the small bedside table. More books stow away in the base.
This bathroom is coloured by a deep burnt orange vanity unit. Flecks of muted moss green scatter the tiles around the bathtub.
The bathroom sink is integrated seamlessly into the smooth white stone countertop.
Black fixtures make bold accessorisation.
Above the cistern concealment unit, a storage cubby is faced in a fashionably fluted texture.
A black heated towel rail makes use of the narrow wall space beside the toilet.

Made characterful with colour, these three modern home designs are bright and bold. Whilst each one communicates a very different aesthetic, all are connected by green accents. The green elements conjure a revitalising essence that feels close to nature. Our first featured tour is a scene of creative contrast. Clashing colours make a vibrant setting filled with artistic energy and vigour. The second house tour is a journey of discovery through quirky design elements that meld into a truly unique apartment. Last of all, we journey to a home with a decidedly more sophisticated vibe, where neoclassical elements are reimagined under crisp colour-blocking and polished terrazzo.
Inside our first home tour, tangerine, coral, yellow, and pink accents cause a riot of colourful contrast with a wall of mint green storage units. The bright combination conjures an aesthetic fun factor that’s enveloping and warm.
An oval coffee table makes a small centrepiece in the middle of the room, with no living room rug beneath to anchor it. Instead, a luxe white marble floor treatment is celebrated in all of its glossy glory.
Elliptical panels form a stylish room divider between the colourful lounge and the bedroom of the apartment. The panels turn on their axis to provide privacy when required.
A number of mint green units in the living space constitute the kitchen. Pink fish scale-like wall tiles make a bold backsplash with a tropical vibe.
The run of green storage units flows all the way into the bedroom, where the units serve as wardrobes. A tangerine ceiling treatment marks the walkway through the home. It also helps to zone the one-wall kitchen from the lounge.
Behind the room divider, a greige upholstered bed is flanked by eye-catching modern wall sconces. A recessed shelving nook introduces a shock of bright tangerine into the serene bedroom scheme.
Our second home tour is a unique space that’s full of surprises. An inviting tufted sofa is shaped like a curvaceous pod behind two sculptural coffee tables.
Instead of the obligatory living room TV wall, a focal point of archways is arranged alongside illuminated green wall shelves.
Terrazzo flooring defines the kitchen area from the rest of the open-plan living space.
The terrazzo floor treatment snakes around from the kitchen to the home entryway. A green console table design makes a colourful focal point in a small alcove.
A yellow arched doorway makes a cheerful entryway into the bedroom. Its curves are echoed in an undulating headboard design. A floating canopy crosses the ceiling above the bed, illuminated by soft perimeter lighting.
A linear media unit strikes a green underline beneath the bedroom TV.
Inside the bathroom, a green vanity unit is paired with an arched vanity mirror. The whole ensemble is encapsulated within an arch-shaped recess, which is lit around its edges to dramatic effect.
Home tour number three is blessed with sophisticated neoclassical flair. This sage green interior design is formal yet fresh, classical yet youthful.
The modular tufted sofa design introduces a brighter shade of green to create interest and energy.
The TV wall carries a distinctly neoclassical vibe with decorative boiserie moulding.
A curved media unit sweeps underneath the living room TV in a clean white finish.
The curvaceous furniture design complements an interior archway that leads to the home entryway. A pretty stained glass window colours the front door.
A low room divider between the lounge and the dining room is smartly clad in green panelling and a terrazzo top. Decorative glass panels reflect the curves of an arch-shaped dining room chandelier.
The room divider is also a breakfast bar/coffee bar.
Glass base units are backlit to make atmospheric mood lighting around the dining room. The unit lights also draw attention to the racetrack-shaped cutouts in the cabinet doors, which beautifully echo the fluted glass room divider panels.
Abstract wall art carries the green accent onto pale wall decor.
A beautiful ceiling rose explodes a ring of decorative stucco around the dining room ceiling light. The upper cabinets in the kitchen are glass fronted to help the compact kitchen diner to appear more open and spacious. LED strips illuminate the contents of the cupboards to create an attractive feature.
A glass vase and modern fruit bowl make a simple dining table centrepiece. See more ideas for modern fruit bowls.
Inside the master bedroom, dark green accents colour the neoclassical decor scheme. The colour palette continues into an attached home office area.
Green colour-blocking runs behind the headboard and bedside units to create a colourful statement. A pleated floor lamp draws an elegantly curved silhouette in front.
Small gold wall sconces complement the dark green paintwork around the headboard. A bank of fitted wardrobes continues the emerald green theme across an adjacent bedroom wall. The bedside units and the bed itself strike a rich note of deep espresso.

In New Jersey, USA, this city apartment is designed for young professionals who value style and comfort. Visualised by Kamran Karimov, this 98 square metre apartment, this elegant modern home is fashioned with cool grey decor that is counterbalanced with warm wood grain elements. Punchy black accents give the contemporary decor scheme visual weight, whilst modern light installations instil an atmospheric glow. Storage furniture is sleek and linear, smoothing subtly around the perimeter of an open, light-filled living room with panoramic windows. Earthy brown and green infusions colour the two bedrooms and bathrooms to provide visual interest and promote a sense of calm.
We start the tour of this modern city apartment in an open layout living space, which incorporates a cosy lounge area, a formal dining room, and a kitchen with a peninsula breakfast bar.
Huge floor-to-ceiling windows break open the longest wall of the open plan living space, and wrap around a second adjoining wall to create a dual aspect panorama.
The sectional sofa echoes the line of wraparound windows with an L-shaped design. The back of the modern sofa is partitioned to allow more of the city view to show through.
The grey sofa complements cool grey concrete walls. Opposite the sofa, a TV wall is clad with visually warming wood grain panels. A recessed light feature draws a crisp glow up and over the entertainment wall.
A modern linear media unit runs beneath the TV, whilst a narrow tower of shelving cuts into a camouflaged wall of storage nearby.
There is an unobstructed flow from the lounge area into the dining zone to create one socially connected space for entertaining.
In contrast to the weighty dining room pendant light, a clear glass vase and floral display make a dainty table centrepiece.
The breakfast bar peninsula divides the kitchen from the rest of the open living space. The hob is situated here to allow the cook to be sociable while preparing dinner.
A boarded focal wall adds a textural element to the room, whilst wardrobes carry a smooth concrete-like aesthetic.
Mini bedroom pendant lights descend upon a brown bedside table, whilst a recessed light strip cuts through a deep wooden window reveal.
The wooden window panels mark a bedroom reading nook.
The desk merges with a bespoke floor-to-ceiling bookcase.
The lounge chair by the window introduces a chic black and white houndstooth pattern.
In the bathroom, it’s a modern linear vanity unit that sends a cut of contrasting brown tone through the cool grey backdrop.
The wall hung grey toilet coordinates with a granite clad cistern concealment wall.
A brown bathtub panel matches the vanity unit, creating one cohesive sweep of colour around the room. A modern toiletries shelf is mounted above the bath, where it introduces a bold black visual anchor.
A niche has been made inside the plumbing concealment wall to house a few select toiletries.
The second double bedroom is coloured with a deep green comforter. A walnut headboard panel complements the wooden interior of a glass-walled walk-in wardrobe.
A concealed ribbon of LED light glows across the top edge of the headboard to accentuate its great width, and to draw attention to a textured feature wall behind it. More LED light strips provide functional illumination to garment rails and accessory shelves inside the wardrobe.
A bedroom vanity table is wall mounted at the foot of the bed, where it benefits from natural light at the window.
The bedroom TV wall is wrapped by a light strip, which adds interest as well as functional illumination.
Fluted glass panels obscure the busy wardrobe contents from the restful sleep space, whilst accepting natural light into the dressing area.
A black modern wall sconce shines upon a low level bedside unit, which is incorporated into the bed design. A mature indoor plant complements the green bed covers with its lush green foliage.
A sleek stone hearth is set below the bedroom TV wall to create a platform on which to display a few decorative items.
Another potted plant adds a flash of greenery next to framed typographic artwork.
The TV wall is slatted to provide textural interest.
A unique modern wall sconce makes a soft night light after dark.
A mini pendant light illuminates the dressing table and a plush grey upholstered vanity chair.
In this ensuite bathroom, a unique bathroom sink sits a deep profile upon a textured modern vanity unit. A rattan laundry basket places complementary ribbed texture beneath.
