Lidl is selling a £70 cordless vacuum cleaner with a ‘secret’ cleaning function — and I predict it’ll fly off the shelves this week

Let’s be honest, the middle of Lidl is a treasure trove of goodies. And this week? The iconic supermarket has dropped a whole host of cleaning essentials for the ultimate summer reset, including the Silvercrest Cordless Cyclone Handheld Vacuum Cleaner, which will vacuum and mop your floors in one fell swoop. The best part is that it’s only £69.99.

Of course, as Ideal Home’s floorcare expert and resident tester of the best vacuum cleaners, I’m no stranger to vacuum mops. In fact, only a couple of weeks ago, I predicted that they would be just as popular (if not more) than regular vacuums by the end of the year. But you know the drill when it comes to the middle of Lidl. When it’s gone, it’s gone.

Lidl is really hitting the mark at the moment. Not only is it selling a £150 portable air conditioner to keep the inside of your house cool during this (admittedly very disgusting) heatwave, but it’s also selling a whole host of vacuums and mops to keep your home clean, too.

But the offering that’s got me most excited is the Silvercrest Cordless Cyclone Handheld Vacuum Cleaner, which boasts a 2-in-1 functionality as a dry vacuum and a wet mop, which is handy if you’re also on the hunt for one of the best mops.

The technology is both simple and effective. On the one hand, you can use the electric floor brush head to vacuum dust and debris from both hardwood and carpet floors, just as you would with a regular vacuum cleaner. And if you feel like your hard flooring needs that extra bit of TLC, you can then add the mop attachment to take your cleaning up a notch.

It even comes with two mop pads and a variety of vacuum cleaner accessories, including a crevice nozzle, round brush nozzle, 2-in-1 combo brush, and a wall docking station, allowing you to keep it out of the way when not in use.

As if that wasn’t enough, it’s also completely cordless, offers up to 45 minutes of run time, and its 0.6L dust canister rivals even the best cordless vacuums in terms of its volume. In fact, our current top-rated cordless model, the Shark Stratos, only has an extra 0.2L on this Lidl alternative.

What’s more, this appliance can also be used in a handheld form for those smaller nooks and crannies, which is a major perk, considering this full-size vacuum mop is already so much cheaper than the best handheld vacuum cleaners.

However, it’s the 2-in-1 functionality that I really think is worth its weight in gold, as it’s significantly cheaper than so many other vacuum mops out there. And although it’s closest in price to the Shark VacMop, the Lidl model has the bonus of replacing your old vacuum cleaner and mop if you need it to.

But if you’re worried about just how cheap it is, you’ll be happy to know that Lidl is also offering a three-year warranty as standard when you buy the Silvercrest Cordless Cyclone Handheld Vacuum Cleaner from them. So, you can rest easy (and with squeaky-clean floors) knowing that you’re covered.

Alternatively, you could shell out for a pricier vacuum mop that comes with a variety of other smart features. They’re certainly more of an investment than the Lidl vacuum mop, but after testing them out myself, I can vouch that they’re worth it.

Run, don’t walk to snap up this Lidl bargain!

If you have a hot, stuffy home, then you need to try the ‘wind tunnel’ cooling hack – it doesn’t cost a penny either

If you have a hot, stuffy home, then you need to try the ‘wind tunnel’ cooling hack – it doesn’t cost a penny either

Hot weather can make our homes feel unbelievably stuffy, which can make the heat feel even more uncomfortable. Stuffy homes are an inevitable side-effect of summer, and when this happens, you should try the ‘wind tunnel’ cooling hack to make your house a more comfortable space.

Of course, the obvious choice when keeping a home cool is investing in one of the best portable air conditioners, but these are selling out fast right now, so it’s always handy to have a few cooling hacks up your sleeve to pair with the best fan.

This hack works by opening windows at both the front and back of your house to create a wind tunnel that cools your house and makes it less stuffy.

The ‘wind tunnel’ cooling hack

You may be aware of the practice of burping your home or the German mould hack Lüften, whereby you open all your windows for a short period of time to encourage a fresh flow of air around your home to prevent damp and condensation.

The ‘wind tunnel’ hack is similar, but this time, instead of combating damp, you’re using a fresh flow of air to cool your house and make it feel less stuffy. Of course, you could use a powerful air circulator, such as the Honeywell Turbo Black Desk Fan (£22.50 at Argos) to provide a breeze, but if your home is already stuffy, you don’t want to further blow hot air around.

‘The ‘wind tunnel’ hack is excellent for quickly refreshing a stuffy home, and works by creating a strong directional airflow that rapidly replaces hot stagnant air with cooler air from outside,’ says Uriel Tannen, Co-Founder at Flitch.

However, there are a few limitations with the method that you need to be aware of if you want it to work as effectively as possible.

‘The ‘wind tunnel’ method needs to happen during night or evening when the sun is down and the temperature drops, otherwise you will be helping warm air come in,’ says Joseph Holman, CEO of sustainable door and window company Green Doors.

‘Make sure you open all the doors, including the internal ones, otherwise it won’t work and clear the airways, and make sure there are no obstructions.

‘Make sure that the doors are secured in position and the wind won’t make the doors slam closed, as it may damage the doors and mechanism.’

You should also consider how safe it is to leave your windows open during the evening due to the risk of burglaries. You should never leave all your windows open if you are not at the property or overnight.

If you don’t feel comfortable opening all your windows for the evening, I have tracked down some cooling fans and air conditioners that are still in stock.

Have you tried this method before? Or do you have a better way to keep your home cool?

Aldi’s new £100 robot vacuum also sweeps and mops – it’s a time-saving must-have for spotless floors

Aldi’s new £100 robot vacuum also sweeps and mops – it’s a time-saving must-have for spotless floors

Does anyone actually enjoy vacuuming? I’m not convinced, and if this household chore is something you struggle to keep on top of, or just don’t want to do, Aldi has the answers to your prayers – a new robot vacuum cleaner for £99.99.

In recent years, robot vacuums have been emerging as some of the best vacuum cleaners around, as they make this daily chore into something you no longer have to think about. The first Aldi robot vacuum launched in 2020, and now a newer version is hitting the shelves.

Landing in stores tomorrow (13 July), the Aldi Robot Vacuum Cleaner is perfect for anyone who wants to dip their toe into the world of robot vacuum cleaners without spending a small fortune. Here’s everything you need to know.

The Aldi robot vacuum cleaner is launching as part of Aldi’s brand new Life Hacks range, which has been specially designed to make your life easier. And one way to make life easier is certainly by reducing the load on your daily cleaning checklist.

79% of Brits own a smart home gadget such as a robot vacuum, according to Aldi, and it’s unlikely this trend will slow down. Smart home appliances can help your home run more efficiently, whilst making your life easier.

Aldi’s robot vacuum cleans floors with a three-stage suction, sweeping and mop functions so you can enjoy a clean home without lifting a finger or reaching for one of the best mops, either.

The vacuum is controlled via an app, which is also compatible with Alexa, Google and Siri. So, you can essentially sit back on the sofa, commanding your vacuum with just your voice.

It’s suitable for both carpet and non-carpeted floors, and for £99.99, I think it is a total steal. Robot vacuums can be pricey, and Aldi’s is one of the most affordable I’ve seen. And for a device that makes your life easier, I think the money is worth it.

The Aldi robot vacuum closely resembles the Beko Robot Cleaner (£209 at Amazon). Beko is renowned for producing quality vacuum cleaners, and while we haven’t tested this one ourselves yet, it does have plenty of glowing reviews.

Customers say it has good suction and praise how effective the mopping feature is on wooden floors. If you have the money to spend, I’d suggest investing in this one, or the Dyson 360 Vis Nav™ robot vacuum cleaner (Was £1,199.99, now £788 at Amazon), which we have tested. An investment buy for sure, this robot vacuum is capable of picking up the most invisible of messes.

The Aldi robot vacuum is a Specialbuy, so when it’s gone, it’s gone. However, if you don’t manage to get your hands on one, here are a few more alternatives.

Do you agree that a robot vacuum can make your life easier? And will you be heading to Aldi to try it out for yourself?

This completely free hack will turn your bedding into a DIY air conditioner and cool your room fast without a fan

Get your sunglasses out and your suncream on, it’s set to be a scorcher! While I’m not about to start complaining about sunny weather, sometimes it can get a bit much, and you’re left wondering how to stay cool in the heat. When this happens, you need to try this completely free old-school cooling hack that will turn a bed sheet into an air conditioner.

This week, the best portable air conditioners have been like gold dust to get hold of and have been selling out fast. Of course, there’s also the option of using one of the best fans, but if you’re looking for that AC feeling, I suggest you try this hack out.

It’s simple. Hang a cold, wet bedsheet over an open window and relax as a cool breeze passes over you. Here’s how it works.

What is the wet bed sheet cooling hack?

Using a damp bed sheet to create a DIY bed sheet is both effective and completely free. It works better than other DIY air conditioner hacks, such as placing a bowl of ice in front of a fan, as it doesn’t combine water and electricity, making it a safer choice.

‘During this season’s warmer nights, creating a cool sleep environment can make a huge difference to the quality and quantity of your rest,’ says Sammy Margo, sleep expert at Dreams.

‘One of my favourite low-effort hacks is to hang a damp sheet or towel in front of an open window. As air flows through the fabric, the moisture begins to evaporate, a process that draws heat out of the surrounding air.

‘This is known as evaporative cooling, and it may help lower the temperature in your room without the need for fans or air conditioning. It’s a simple, sustainable way to bring much-needed relief on hot, stuffy nights and support more comfortable, uninterrupted sleep!’

The idea is that the wet sheet will cool hot air as it enters your home through the window. It means you don’t have to rely on a fan. However, I’d argue using a powerful fan, such as the Meaco MeacoFan 1056 Air Circulator (£99.99 on Amazon), will help the cool air circulate around your room.

Is this a good hack to use?

The bed sheet hack requires no electricity, so you don’t need to worry about using it all night to cool a bedroom. It’s also easy and free, making it accessible for everyone. After all, who doesn’t have an old bed sheet lying around for DIY projects?

‘This is a good method to cool a room during a heatwave, as it works through evaporative cooling,’ says Liam Spencer, owner of Northallerton Glass.

‘In order to evaporate, water needs to absorb heat energy from the environment, and as it has a high level of surface tension, it needs a large amount of this to turn into a gas. As this process absorbs heat, it cools down the room as the air passes through the sheet.’

For even better results, you could even stick your sheets in the wet sheets in the freezer for a few minutes before use. You don’t want to freeze them completely, but a blast in the cold drawer will make them even colder.

Alternatively, there are still a few portable air conditioners in stock, so if you want the real deal, check these out.

Will you be trying out this cooling hack? Or do you have any other methods you swear by?

I thought Shark’s viral misting fan had completely sold out, but I’ve just found a ‘secret’ stash still available – and they’re on sale, too!

I thought Shark’s viral misting fan had completely sold out, but I’ve just found a ‘secret’ stash still available – and they’re on sale, too!

You probably don’t need me to tell you that Shark’s viral misting fan is a hot commodity right now (quite literally). And while it’s completely sold out on Amazon , I’ve put on my detective hat and found one place where it’s STILL in stock. You can still pick up the Shark FlexBreeze HydroGo at Currys on sale down from £129.99 to £99.99. But I can’t imagine it will stay that way for long.

Yep, everyone’s stocking up on the best fans amidst the impending heatwave, but Currys is one of the few places that still has the viral misting fan available – and for a bargain price, too.

As a couple of the colourways are no longer in stock, I’d suggest you snap this deal up before all of them are gone. After all, who knows how long it’ll take for a restock?

With temperatures set to rise over the weekend, the world and his dog are rushing to buy the best portable air conditioners and even the best desk fans to take the edge off. But if you’ve been online shopping over the past few days, you’ll know that almost everything is sold out.

The Shark FlexBreeze HydroGo is one of those products flying off the shelves, and for good reason. As well as being a viral sensation, it’s also one of the best ways to combat the rising heat – especially if you want to spend time in the garden without boiling alive. In fact, our Senior Digital Editor, Jenny, loved it when she tried it out.

And why wouldn’t she? Unlike a regular fan, this misting fan has an integrated water tank, which creates an ultra-fine mist to take the edge off the hot and sticky days we’re having. It’s also completely cordless and can be used either inside or outside, meaning you can use it while chilling out on the sofa or take it to the park for your weekend picnic.

It offers up to 12 hours of cordless run time and even has a 20-metre cooling reach, so you can pop it on one side of the garden and let the breeze do the talking. As if that wasn’t enough, it also offers five fan speeds and two SmartBreeze modes to help you customise your cool.

In fact, the only things better than the fan itself are 1) the fact it’s still in stock at Currys despite completely selling out on Amazon and 2) that it’s currently only £99.99, which is £30 off the RRP.

Sadly, the green and pink colourways are currently out of stock, but four other colourways are ready to become your heatwave hero.

If you’re reading this and they’re no longer in stock, sorry you were too late! But there are some alternatives still available elsewhere.

Run, don’t walk to grab the Shark FlexBreeze HydroGo before it sells out… properly!
