A crazy day at the office, awkward social situations, and family woes all make us long for our beds, where we can pull up the covers and hide away. Sanctuary can be extended far beyond the sheets though. A large bedroom can provide a whole host of possibilities for unwinding: a place to lounge and read, a spot for conversation and coffee with a partner, or an open-plan bathtub for long relaxing soaks. In this collection of 40 large bedroom design ideas, we’ll look at luxurious decor ideas that make dreams come true. We’ll tour an array of headboard feature walls, stylish bedroom furniture, statement lighting, and more.
Create a romantic atmosphere with a canopy bed and fresh white bed linen. This breezy bedroom design is energized by a colorful woven rug and tropical garden view.
Dream up a clean, neutral scene. Choose a crisp, linear sofa as an end-of-bed bench, and include sleek white marble bedside units. Add interest to the simple scheme with a feature headboard wall or a unique desk.
Go crazy with color. From wild murals to ombre curtains, in a large bedroom, there’s space for it all. Balance out the bold hues with a rich, natural wood ceiling treatment and a matching floor.
With an abundance of bedroom floor space, there are opportunities for fun furniture pieces. Team a chaise lounge chair with a floor lamp to fashion a comfortable reading nook.
Nurture an earthy decor scheme with chunky timber elements, natural stone accents, and jute rugs. Add rattan accents like these pretty bedroom pendant lights and ceiling fan with light.
A large bay window is an ideal place to create a bedroom lounge area. Here, a curved sofa perfectly fills the spot. A magnificent circle chandelier complements the curved couch.
These circle chandeliers fill a pastel pink bedroom with floral whimsey.
Decorate wide headboard walls with fashionably fluted panels. Hang pendant lights in front to create layering, while a bedroom chandelier claims the focal point.
Big bedrooms need big statement pieces. This large piece of circular wall is further accentuated with LED backlighting.

Construct a symmetrical statement wall with balanced paneling and luxe gold accents.

Throw off a safe, symmetrical layout with an asymmetrical bed design and lighting installation to create more interest.

Not many people could realize a bedroom like this on their property but it offers stunning inspiration. Dark bedroom decor makes a magical background for a botanical theme. An open-plan ensuite bathroom gains unique zoning via a pebbled floor.
Whether you have an amazing panoramic view or you want to gaze upon the stars, installing larger windows and skylights takes a large bedroom to the next level.
If the wall at the end of the bed is too far away for optimum TV viewing, consider a post-mounted TV instead.

When floor space is limited but ceilings are high, a mezzanine level is a perfect way to extend usable living space. Since headroom is often restricted in mezzanine rooms, it’s sensible to give your platform a purpose that doesn’t require a generous ceiling height. This limitation is not a problem in a room where you plan to lie down most of the time, like a bedroom. Furthermore, by tucking a sleep space up away from an open plan living space, more privacy is attained. In this collection of 40 mezzanine bedrooms, we’ll look at concepts of all sizes and aesthetics, along with tips to help you design yours.
A partial mezzanine retains ceiling height in the living space, whilst shifting the bed up off the floor. A librarian ladder access point needs little floor space, and the ladder can be used to reach high shelves in the room too.
A natural wood mezzanine structure adds beautiful warmth and texture to a high-ceilinged interior. Apply a plethora of lush green indoor plants to add to the rustic aesthetic.
Large loft apartments offer plenty of ceiling height and width to create a luxurious, fully-fledged bedroom space. Maintain the airy mezzanine look with open metalwork balustrades or glass panels that share natural light.
If you desire more privacy, a half-height mezzanine floor can be filled in with attractive panelling. Apply muxarabi screens or porthole windows to allow in a trickle of natural light from the living space. See more images here.
This glass wall mezzanine bedroom drinks in all of the natural light available. Underneath, a solid-sided volume houses a windowless bathroom and an attractively backlit entryway closet.
To save space on the ground, a small mezzanine or lofted bed structure can be suspended from the ceiling. A permanent staircase should work double duty as everyday storage.
Wood louvre walls and doors provide a level of privacy and spatial divide whilst maintaining airflow and light share.
Disguise a mezzanine staircase as a tiered bookcase design.
On a long, narrow platform, combine the bedroom space with a home library. Shallow bookshelves make good use of a confined walkway.
Keep colours light and uplifting in compact spaces. A white background will visually open up the space. Green accents will trick the brain into enjoying a fresh outdoor feel.
Lay a mezzanine bedroom over a lounge area. A low ceiling height over a sofa isn’t a big deal when you’re sitting down.
Choose an open staircase design with no risers to make a light impact on a small space.
Fashion a mezzanine staircase out of kitchen cabinets.
A glass floor will ensure that sunlight flows into the space below a mezzanine. This bedroom design utilises a Murphy bed to keep the glass floor clear throughout the day.
Make use of a small landing area with a mini closet.
By pushing the bed out on a limb, this mezzanine layout makes space for a dedicated home office area.
Another nifty staircase idea, these treads extrude directly out of a floor-to-ceiling built-in bookcase.

A small kitchen slides underneath the slope of this industrial metal staircase design. Black metal balustrades create a bold cage around the bedroom.
Fashion a bedroom right above the front door.
A skylight fills this elevated bedroom area with natural light. The shaded area beneath it makes a projector-friendly living room.
An all-white interior helps to streamline the appearance of a mezzanine level, its adjoining staircase, and an integrated kitchen beneath.
White decor fades this raised bedroom area into the background, whilst its wooden structure makes a warm focal wall for the living room.
Sculpt an abstract minimalist vision with overlapping white volumes.
Create definition between the bedroom and living zone with colour.
In kids’ bedrooms, a mezzanine platform opens up more space for play and study.
This lofted bed makes room for a kid’s TV lounge.
Create an inviting window seat halfway up a mezzanine staircase to further enhance the living space.
Distract the eye from a mezzanine by employing bright and bold living room accent furniture.
Make the most of your extra floor space by giving the mezzanine a dual purpose. A sofa bed means that you can use the area as a lounge during the day.
Get creative with balustrade design to gain a positive feature rather than a safety obligation.
Neatly integrate your design with towers of colour. This black volume slots in satisfyingly alongside a baby blue focal wall. See more inspiration here.
Carve out a curvaceous design.
Create a cosy nook away from the hubbub. See more images of this space-saving tiny apartment in New York here.
Build your bedroom around a skylight and you’ll be dreaming under the stars.
Erect a central cube to leave large windows unobstructed.
This bold bedroom cube has a freestanding aesthetic. Its dark wood tone creates contrast from the rest of the white living space, which forms a striking TV wall and open-fronted wardrobe.
You won’t even notice that you’re passing beneath the bedroom as you pass through this stylish front entryway.
Slimline laconic materials are key in this barely-there mezzanine design.
Access every inch of potential storage space with your mezzanine staircase.
Line the underside of your platform with attractive wood panelling to create a cosy feature.
Make one small space fit all by incorporating an end-of-bed home office with a sunken footwell, an under-bed wardrobe, and a convenient vanity area.

Fill your bedroom from top to toe with pretty statements. In this pink and yellow bedroom decor scheme, two circle chandeliers fill the ceiling, whilst an abstract bedroom rug patterns the floor. A focal wall of arched shelving nooks draws the eye on a journey of discovery.

Piece together a neoclassical puzzle. Hang a modern statement chandelier from an exceptional ceiling rose. Mount contemporary artwork and wall sconces inside wainscot and boiserie panels.

Make large, high-ceilinged spaces into a cozy bedroom aesthetic by raising the floor level and creating smaller zones. Utilize the space under the platform and stairs for storage.
Cut off an overly long bedroom space by constructing a walk-in wardrobe behind the headboard. Here, we see a double-entry design, with an arched doorway by each bedside. A winged headboard design keeps the sleep space feeling cozy and enclosed.
Fashion a space fit for a modern Egyptian king or queen. Install a hieroglyphic headboard wall with a gold finish, and employ servant-like statues to bring you light. Incorporate textural stone wall tiles to fashion a solid, pyramid-like interior.
This aesthetic bedroom design is enriched by the natural beauty of indoor plants, which make stunning contrast with wood-slatted wall panels and 3D tiles. A glass wall walk-in wardrobe makes the space look lighter and larger.
A green and pink bedroom palette is fresh, sweet, and enlivening. Ground the look with wood laminate flooring in a modern herringbone or chevron application.
Those lucky enough to have extra space at the end of the bed will benefit from a small bedroom lounge area. Great for soaking up a bit of TV before hitting the sheets.

In this boho bedroom design, a chunky wooden end of bed bench complements a tonal brown decor scheme. A fluted headboard wall creates magical light-play.
Use sleek linear silhouettes and natural materials to create a Japanese-inspired bedroom look. Add a splash of fun with a statement chair. This one is the Serie Up 2000 lounge chair and ottoman set.
In this neoclassical bedroom interpretation, curvaceous silhouettes playfully counteract the more formal elements to accomplish a relaxed look.
On the flip side, neoclassical drama builds a super formal space in this home. Coffered ceilings and magnificent archways dominate.

Make it all about the arches. If you’re lucky enough to have feature windows like these stunning arches, make them the protagonist of the story by keeping the rest of the decor minimal.
In this bedroom design, blue drapes brightly draw focus to the arched windows. A blue headboard wall rounds out the scheme.
Meld neoclassical style with modern marble elements. Chic neoclassical elements are superbly complemented by the beauty and clean lines of natural stone interludes.
This marble meld utilizes a marble slab to extend the width of an upholstered headboard design. The result is a divine, layered look that’s custom-fit to the space.
Frame it out. Apply wall molding with careful thought. Here, panel molding is arranged to perfectly frame a piece of artwork above the bed and a circle chandelier out in front.
Classic molding and trendy slats. Combine classic wainscotting with a border of contemporary slatted panels to get the best of both worlds.
A brief splash of color. A simple bed throw and scatter cushions can make the world of difference to an all-white neoclassical bedroom design. Add contrasting drapes to up the ante.
Sharpen a neoclassical bedroom theme with black and white contrast.
Make a modern art overlay. This abstract art wall is joyfully complemented by a color-matched upholstered bed.
Increase the sense of space in the bedroom with a mesmerizing mirrored headboard.
Curate an eye-catching bedroom vignette with a show-stopping upholstered headboard silhouette, quirky artwork, and a unique bedside lamp.
It doesn’t take a lot of color to shake up a lack-luster neoclassical backdrop. This elegant bedroom is transformed with a jade green headboard, chandelier, and matching wall sconces.
Grow grandeur with oversized elements, like this imposing bedroom chandelier, curved headboard, and golden bedside table lamps.
Make it all about the ceiling rose.
A core of color. Employ bright bed upholstery and a contrasting end of bed ottoman to inject color into the heart of a white neoclassical bedroom.

Paint powder blue neoclassical dreams.
Go deep into color combinations, like this saturated prussian blue and punchy red showstopper.
Create a regal neoclassical bedroom scene with emerald green majesty.
Paint a green, white and gray balance. Note how all dark green elements in this scheme are modern pieces, whilst neoclassical elements retain a lighter wash.
Create strong visuals with tufted furniture. The tufted upholstery method may have been developed to strengthen furniture finishes, but it makes a bold visual too. Consider extending the impact of a tufted bed with a matching tufted sofa.
Add a glimmer of gold to take your bedroom upmarket.

Layers of luxe. From a wraparound headboard bejeweled with shimmering bedroom pendant lights to a gold-spliced feature wall behind a bewitching bedroom chandelier, this room has it all going on.
A golden gallery, lustrous walls, a gleaming chandelier, gold wall sconces, and a gold-infused rug come together to display the Midas touch.
Make it mellow with mint and silver.
Elevate wall molding with scenic panels.
Mix up boiserie walls by introducing mirrored sections and an upholstered headboard wall.
Another take on the upholstered headboard wall. This time, cream upholstery is teamed with more classic furniture and a unique, oversized crystal chandelier.
This bright blue upholstered headboard wall commands the room. A matching blue end of bed bench extends the color theme.
Add an amazing accent chair, like this sweet whale tail seat.
A triangle of triumph. When choosing an accent color, create a triangle of three points around the room to achieve a cohesive look. In this room, an olive green bed, vanity area, and bedroom chair build a matching set.
In this example of a three-point cohesive color story, gray furniture sets form the sleep zone, vanity, and bedroom lounge.
Add arches in your own way. When architectural arches aren’t available, bring in an arched motif via furniture and accessories instead. This modern bed design introduces the theme with an eye-catching arch-shaped headboard, which is complemented by rounded bedroom accent furniture and lighting.
Add drama with darkness. This bedroom features black paintwork over the walls and ceiling, and dark tiles cover the floor. Mirrored panels cut through the shadowy decor to lift the look.

Contradict decorative wall molding with minimalist wardrobes.

Eclectic magic happens when different interior styles and ideas are merged together to create a unique look. This creative style often features an overarching theme, such as rustic, boho, or industrial. In these instances, we witness relaxed eclectic design principles with a leaning into the dominant aesthetic. This process translates well into real homes, where much-loved items are held onto as fashions change. The eclectic style allows us our unabridged passion for pieces from long ago or from sentimental sources. This is also an aesthetic that welcomes a multicolor, multi-patterned approach from the bold and the brave. Come with us as we tour 51 eclectic bedrooms with tips and ideas to help you decorate yours.
Curtains, rugs, and ceilings. All are bold statement pieces and none have to match in color or style. If you love it, it goes.
Not all of us have a spectacular vaulted ceiling to gaze up at from our pillows, but we can all create overhead wow factor with a bedroom chandelier. In a loose eclectic aesthetic, lighting can be modern, traditional, boho, or whatever your heart desires.
Use old components or historically inspired pieces to add a little age and character to featureless modern surroundings. This modern home gains a striking headboard design from a medieval-style door panel.

Boho eclectic. Mix trendy modern furniture with boho vibes to create a relaxed bedroom environment. Think rattan baskets, handmade wall decor, and macramé pendant lights.
Say it with wallpaper. Change up a modern bedroom design with a feature wall of traditional wallpaper. This delicate print is framed wonderfully within an arched motif that is atmospherically lit around its edge.
Speaking of frames, how about this astonishing gilded framework? The traditional arched motif forms a highly ornate headboard outline for a modern platform bed and extra interest around modern wall art.
Amp up the contrast with clashing colors. In this eclectic bedroom palette, teal, red, and yellow accents crash together to make an energized look. A combination of bold patterns adds to the visual feast.
Moody modern and traditional melds. Sleek bespoke cabinetry makes a sharp statement at either side of a platform bed. Fill the contemporary cabinets with classic busts and hang old oil paintings above the bed to offset the modernity. Allow the paintings to inspire a moody decor palette that will adhere the two styles.
Statement pieces from two different ages. Counterbalance a large and traditional painting with an equally large and modern light installation to make a striking juxtaposition.
Sharp modern meets soft and mellow. This sharply perforated wooden headboard design would look at home in a minimalist setting or a raw industrial space. However, in this eclectic bedroom design, it is teamed with a much softer boho throw and an elegant pale Persian rug.
Style through the ages. Neoclassical wall panels and an art deco-inspired bed design make a gloriously decorative ensemble. You may think that houndstooth print is a relatively modern touch, but the first houndstooth check actually dates back to between 360 BC and 100 BC!
Rustic eclectic split. Split an eclectic bedroom straight down the middle with raw rustic wood tone on one side and dark gray modern contrast on the other.
The rugged room split. Eat away pristine white neoclassical panels with a crumbled edge, which dissolves into a rugged rock face wall. Add perimeter lighting above the stone wall to dramatize the textural difference.
Eclectic glamor. Use mirrors and an abundance of lights to create a sparkling eclectic haven.
Pattern play. When using a multitude of patterns in an eclectic bedroom design, it’s possible to retain a level of cohesivity with similar colors and tones.
Industrial eclectic. Hard industrial backdrops benefit from softer infusions of boho-style basketweave, bare timber, warmly glowing string lights, and a relaxed swing chair.
Whimsical and regal. A gold candelabra sheds light upon a whimsical peacock wallcovering here, establishing luxurious eclectic flair.
Create a cohesive accent color thread. Despite the confusion of color and pattern in this interior design, a blue color thread stitches together the look with effortless cohesion.
Lock in color with black outlines. A black 4 poster bed frame sturdily holds together an assortment of colorful throw pillows, whilst black picture frames neatly contain vibrant artwork.
Jarring and uber fun. A shocking pink and deep teal color combo is sure to energize early in the morning. A bolster cushion adds a flourish of leopard print onto this plush teal tufted bed for good measure.
Removable wall panels. If you’re not sure whether you want to take the plunge with a bold wall covering, apply it to artists canvases or lightweight panels instead. These can be mounted side-by-side as a feature wall that is easily removable.
Minimalist eclectic loft. Three pieces of furniture, three pieces of additional decor. It doesn’t take an abundance of items to achieve a full eclectic image.
Light layers of opulence. Allow the eye a place to rest by arranging an eclectic curation upon a purely white backdrop.
Loud and electric. This solid red bedroom scheme receives a jolt of electric blue in the form of an unusual tiled headboard treatment.
A raw backdrop. Bright colors and contrasting styles work well against a laconic raw concrete background.
Just two contrasting colors is enough to fashion an eye-catching palette.
Open shelves and art walls. Arrange eclectic vignettes upon bookshelves and curate intriguing art walls to bring your space to life.
Neon clash. Even a beige backdrop can be made colorful with limited resources. A new duvet, curtains, scatter cushions, and a piece of textile art builds a cool neon clash here.
Surf’s up! Create a beachy, cool bedroom design with brightly painted surfboards as wall decor, mounted right up alongside abstract art.
Geometry meets botanical decor. Use monochrome gridwork and leaf prints to fashion a structured celebration of nature.
Allow dominant art colors to bleed from the canvas onto the furniture. Even a small splash of color will completely change the aesthetic of a dull bedside cabinet.
Asian eclectic boudoir. Utilize exquisite oriental-style panels to pattern a unique headboard design.
Neoclassical smash. The masterful neoclassical spirit of this relief art wall is broken down by a wall of modern closets and industrial style lighting.
Muted and metallic. A meld of muted hues is brought to life with a sprinkling of beautiful brass hardware and light fixtures.
Three starring colors. A deeply impactful, color saturated aesthetic is achievable with just a few shades.
Botanical and bold. Beginning with a mural of botanical motifs, build up the color palette shade by shade to reach a bold conclusion.

It’s all about the bed. No matter what decor is applied to a bedroom, where we sleep is the main event. Make your bed stand out from the rest of the crowd with a punchy paint finish.
Stunning skies. Ceilings are rarely the star of the show in a home interior but eclectic ceilings are different. From floral wallpapers and color-blocked applications to color-washes and cloud effects, eclectic ceilings shine.
Minimalist boho. Succinct and nature-kissed.
Sophisticated eclectic is achieved with high-end pieces and meticulous placement.
Modern art lover’s eclectic is all about big statements.
Yellow ochre overture. Begin your design with an earthy ochre backdrop that leads into intricately patterned pieces and handmade arts.
Let nature be your guide. A green panoramic view inspires many things. Let it inspire natural materials in your eclectic bedroom design, contrasting warm tints and metallics, and a sense of connection with the earth.
Neoclassical trimmed industrial decor. Deep, decorative crown molding counteracts a wall of exposed brickwork to create a strong and intricate setting.
A journey of discovery. After the instant attraction of a color-blocked wall, take the eye and the mind on a journey of discovery around the room with well-placed patterns and unique objects. This sage green bedroom design features framed areas of pattern instead of full wall coverings.
If heavily patterned and colored eclectic ceilings aren’t your thing, then how about a visually warming wood clad finish?
Just a few select pieces. Artwork, statement lighting, and a unique radiator design is all that’s needed to fashion a standout scheme.
Carve out your own contours. If you lack interesting nooks and architectural arches, create your own with curvaceous color-blocking. This colorful headboard design becomes one with the wall stucco.
Another hand painted headboard wall, this time with the addition of a metallic gold sunburst to brighten each morning.
Reclaimed gems. Scour thrift stores and yard sales for long lost gems to set within your scheme.
The statement floor. Paint stripes, swirls, or diamonds to give exposed floorboards new life.
