I Tried Rubbermaid’s First-Ever Bakeware Collection — and I’m in Love

There are some companies out there that, when word comes down the pipeline that a new launch is coming, you can’t help but get excited. For me, one of those beloved brands is Rubbermaid. My family has been a Rubbermaid household for as long as I can remember, and when I first moved out on my own, you can bet I outfitted my place with Rubbermaid everything, from kitchenware to (of course) storage containers. So when I heard the brand was making its first foray into the bakeware space, I was more than excited to put the new pieces to the test — and let’s just say the DuraLite Bakeware collection lives up to the hype.

What’s so special about the DuraLite Bakeware line? Described as “a high-end line of baking dishes that combines the best of glass and ceramic bakeware into one,” this collection is made from a revolutionary type of glass that’s designed for high heat tolerance. Plus, it boasts an oven-safe temperature of up to 550 degrees — which is 100 degrees higher than any other glass or ceramic bakeware on the market. To top it off, these dishes are also nestable, lightweight, resistant to chips and breaks, and safe for the microwave, freezer, and dishwasher. All of this information seemed quite impressive, but what I really wanted to know was how well these babies performed.

I tested the 9″ x 13″ and 10″ x 10″ dishes on a variety of recipes, including a casserole, a roast, and no-churn ice cream, and everything performed wonderfully. The bakeware held up well to the high heat of the roast and cold temperature of the freezer, came out of the dishwasher unscathed, and looked beautiful while doing so — a big selling point for me.

Having a baking dish that can act as prepware, bakeware, and serveware is a revelation for anyone who likes to entertain but is small on space. To find that said piece also comes with a lid for easy left-over storage? Well, I’m just about ready to replace all of my bakeware with the DuraLite collection. That being said, there is one quirk I should mention: temperature sensitivity. Because the pieces can reach such high temperatures, it’s important to take care not to move them directly from the freezer to the microwave or oven.

Rubbermaid’s DuraLite Bakeware is available in a variety of shapes and sizes, from ramekins to casserole dishes to assorted sets. Personally, I’m a fan of the eight-piece set, which comes with a 9″ x 13″ dish, a 10″ x 10″ dish (both with lids), and four ramekins, all for under $50. Not interested in a bundle? Individual pieces start at just $19.95.

I love that, even after all these years, Rubbermaid is continuing its legacy of innovative, must-have, affordable kitchenware. Snag yours ASAP, and you’ll be all set for spring and summer baking, and beyond.

Inspiration can come from the unlikeliest of places — and in the case of Haand’s latest colorway, it was from the floors of old industrial buildings. Yes, that’s right: The popular North Carolina-based ceramics brand launched a new hue today that’s weathered, neutral, and totally gorgeous. Meet Concrete. This glaze was the most popular color sold during the brand’s recent Seconds Sale, and now, the entire Concrete collection is available.

“I love the transition you can see in old buildings as they crumble and age,” explains Haand co-founder Mark Warren. “I’m always fascinated by the way these hard surfaces reflect the history of what has been done on them.”

Concrete is now available for a wide range of Haand favorites like the large pasta bowl and oval platter. It should also be noted that Haand’s elegant pieces are all made from lead-free white porcelain, which makes them microwave- and dishwasher-safe (score!).

To create the pattern, the gray and black hues are applied by hand separately. They melt together in the kiln and create a mottled, granite-y surface that, as Mark describes, “looks gorgeous on the flat surface of a plate, and when applied to a vase or bowl it gives the appearance of being carved from a river stone. Food really pops on this finish, and there is nothing quite like it out there in the pottery world.”

We’re big fans of this earthy new hue, and if you are, too, you’ll want to get your hands on these pretty new Haand pieces while supplies last.
