Impressively large rooms with high ceilings and wide windows build these two exceptional rustic Mediterranean style villa designs. A warming palette of natural materials covers each room in the shape of relaxed rattan furniture, jute rugs, rustic wicker pendant light shades, burlap drapes, and hessian throws. Visualised by Anastasia Bulycheva, the texture-rich accessories are met by raw wall render and fresh infusions of indoor plants. Sliding glass doors adjoin indoor and outdoor living spaces to make the most of warm and glorious weather. Comfortable outdoor lounge areas have been fashioned around the pool terraces, where mature green borders grow serene seclusion and picturesque perimeters.
Our first rustic Mediterranean inspired villa design comes to us from the Turks and Caicos Islands, lying on the southeastern periphery of The Bahamas. We begin the villa tour in a luxurious bedroom design, where lightweight burlap drapes billow in the breeze at wide windows.
A hessian headboard treatment and a matching throw add deep, visually warming texture to the bed, along with two decorative jute accent pillows. Stainless steel bedroom pendant lights introduce a much cooler and sharper aesthetic at either side of the bed.
A floor reading lamp adds a stainless steel accent beside a lounge chair in the corner of the bedroom. A set of glass doors lead out onto the terrace to extend the bedroom into a cool seating area.
Next to the bedroom chair, a small table provides a handy ledge for setting down books and a cold drink. A mature plant flourishes in a handmade wicker planter.
Round jute floor cushions are scattered on the concrete terrace that lies outside of the bedroom. Just around the corner, the blue swimming pool water shines invitingly in the sunlight.
A wicker chair pulls up at a floating rustic desk design, which multitasks as a media unit beneath the TV, and also as a dressing table.
A natural jute rug is unfurled across the bedroom floor, ending just beneath the wicker chair to fashion one cohesive space.
On the wooden desktop, a compact Marshall speaker sets a retro vibe. The portable speaker can be taken out onto the terrace to play music by the pool.
The small bedside shelf holds a desk clock that has a coordinating retro look.
The terrace that lies just outside of the bedroom doors dips down, which allows the higher platform to be utilised as a built-in concrete sofa design. A rustic outdoor coffee table fills the centre of the conversational seating area.
Rustic decorative bowls add extra character to the weathered outdoor coffee table design.
An assortment of throw pillows make a tonal arrangement across the L-shaped outdoor sofa and an outdoor chair. A couple of poufs round out the furniture layout.
Sunlight plays upon the outdoor chair and sofa through a cane pergola. A concrete planter houses a plethora of lush green plant life.
The lush green borders continue around the edge of the swimming pool to provide picturesque privacy.
Modern sun loungers gather at one end of the rectangle pool design, where one can gaze upon the garden and the blue horizon.
Our second rustic Mediterranean pool villa design is located in Marbella, Spain. In this concept, lines are a little smoother, and the decor palette a little lighter. A living room rug warmly mirrors the rich natural tone of exposed wooden ceiling beams.
Two curved sofas smooth white accents onto the natural rug, where they wrap around a set of two circular coffee tables.

An open staircase design climbs the back wall of the living room with suspended risers.
In the corner, a jute round rug and tall indoor plants give a small reading nook a cosy appeal.

A floating shelf is mounted low on the wall in order to display a large piece of modern artwork and some smaller sculptural elements.
Rustic stone feature walls build mellow creamy focal points around the living room and behind the minimalist staircase.
A bed of stones beneath the staircase design receives lightplay through the open treads.
A fireplace and a split level floor separates the lounge from the neighbouring kitchen and dining space.
The dual aspect modern fireplace allows a glimpse of the neighbouring room through the flame.
Wooden window shutters rotate to shield the dining room from the glare of the Mediterranean sun.
Stone walls run seamlessly between indoor and outdoor living spaces.
Even with the shutters turned to cool the interior, natural daylight enters the villa through clerestory windows.
WIde concrete steps lead directly from the edge of the living room, down into the swimming pool.
An olive tree adds a burst of greenery to the pool patio.
Outdoor chaise lounge chairs are situated at an elevated point next to the kitchen diner, which makes it easy to grab refreshments when desired.
The lower outdoor platform is dressed with floor cushions to fashion a comfortable bench underneath the shade of the canopy.
The wood, stone, and white render materials palette communicates a rustic Mediterranean style that spans the ages.

Inspired by history and tradition, this 402.37 square metre home is a true piece of the Mediterranean, melding peacefully with the beautiful natural landscape. Created by architectural firm Beef Architekti, this luxury home in Mallorca is respectfully built from local stone to follow along with the traditional stone towns on the island. The stone facade helps to maintain a cool temperature during the summertime and helps accumulate heat in the winter months. Inside the residence, the stone walls become an attractive rustic aesthetic that gives the house a sense of security and permanence. Modern furniture and eye-catching lighting installations shape a contemporary decor scheme with elements of natural wood, rattan, and glass.
Casa Fly reflects the vernacular architecture not only with stone that’s sourced from the local quarry but by employing traditional techniques that are used all over the island of Mallorca.
Based on the typical construction of Mallorcan houses and their bordering walls, the traditional dry technique of ‘Pedra en sec’ ties the building with the local design that was declared as an intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2018.
The home opens out onto a large pool terrace, where fingers of concrete reach out over the inviting blue water.
The house is built in respect of the local environment; ventilating systems and areas of natural shading are included to offer relief from the hot Mediterranean sun.
The fenestration is recessed deep into the structure of the house, where the windows find shade beneath great concrete slabs.
The rustic stone-built aesthetic flows from the exterior to the large and spacious interior, where it meets with lime plasterwork, Estuco de cal. A grey modular sofa is set out in a sociable U-shaped arrangement, proving plenty of room for extended family members and friends.
When dinner time calls, a large rectangle dining table seats up to eight guests. The wooden dining set is complemented by a wood slatted wall feature behind it. These wood slatted walls are repeated throughout the interior, where they create interesting shadowplay as the sunlight moves. As well as portraying the contemporary slatted trend, the natural wood communicates a local traditional atmosphere.
The slatted wall panels also allow airflow throughout the home, even while the outer shutters are closed. Eye-catching earthenware dining room pendant lights complement the warm tone of the wooden dining room decor.
Slatted ceilings bring more mellow wood tone to the abode, slicing a contemporary feel above the rustic exposed stonework.
Floor-to-ceiling wooden shutters fold closed across the transitional living space between the interior and the pool terrace for heat prevention. Not only useful, but aesthetically these wooden shutters hark beautifully to the traditional facades of typical Mallorcan houses.
Once the shutters are drawn back, a modern dining space links with the pool terrace to provide a shaded eating spot with a gorgeous view.
The unique dining set features a pair of solid wood dining benches that fuse with the tabletop.
As we move past the naturally ventilated dining spot, we enter into the kitchen via a set of sliding glass doors. The series of doors used across the property allows fresh air to enter each living space, or to flow throughout the entire home. Custom-made furniture stands out against the modest decor scheme, here in the shape of a bespoke cantilevered kitchen island that complements the outer canopies.

A bold cantilevered staircase design climbs to the upper floor. Wooden slats build a coordinating vertical axis that forms the backbone of the house.
Upstairs, a modern upholstered bed lays a simple grey platform against the warming tones of a stone headboard wall.
The wood slatted panel aesthetic repeats inside the bedrooms, creating a calming cohesivity through the house.
Blue decor accents are inspired by the view of the clear blue sky and the Mediterranean sea.
The remainder of the interior colour palette is blissfully uncomplicated in shades of grey and sandy beige.
A large and spacious bathroom boasts a lush treetop view from the bathtub.
Modern wooden furniture and a natural jute round rug form a small seating area.
Airflow moves through the whole house up to the skylights to provide vertical and horizontal ventilation.

A fusion of modern and Andalusian architectural influence comes together to create this pristine Mediterranean villa, which is surrounded by a lush green landscape. Created by AMES Arquitectos, Villa Victoria is highly finished to offer its residents an enviable lifestyle. Airy vaulted ceilings, a plethora of indoor and outdoor water features, a picturesque courtyard and manicured gardens add to the peaceful ambience of the modern home. Whilst rustic stone walls shape the home exterior, the interior is a smooth scene of white rendered walls, contemporary furniture pieces and chic decor accents. An open plan living space and games room proves perfect for entertaining guests, whilst bedroom suites are secluded and serene.
Located on one of the most attractive estates in Nueva Andalucía, the home is blessed with uplifting green views of a rolling grassy landscape and mature trees.

Built-in units float a few inches above the floor tile to maintain the perception of open space in the clean layout. A planter is bedded into the top to create a run of greenery through the dining room, all the way to the fireplace in the lounge.
Another bed of plants is cut right into the floor of the hallway, which creates a sense connection with the green hillside location. Textured concrete ripples a cool backdrop, whilst wood wall cladding offers a counteracting smooth finish and warmth.
The rectangular pool shimmers across the front of the interior lounge and dining space, whilst the outdoor lounge aligns with the kitchen.
A modern outdoor sofa is positioned for comfortably taking in the views.
A huge white marble and wood grain kitchen island faces toward the wide pool terrace and the sweeping panorama. Unique kitchen pendant lights fall at varying heights to create a sculptural installation of lustrous copper.
The luxurious white marble and wooden finishes continue across the back wall of the kitchen, where a deeply recessed planter is built into the backsplash to simulate a mini landscape view in the windowless wall.
A sculptural staircase design connects all three levels of the villa, rising from the access area at the base of the property, through the main living level and up to the private bedrooms.
