A sense of serenity washes over us as we tiptoe through this set of luxurious Chinese-style villa interiors, each open and spacious and decorated in calming laconic palettes and delicate detail. Visualised by ZHBB Vision, these spaces reminisce about the beautiful scenery of Jiangnan, the picturesque lands that lie south of the Yangtze River’s lower reaches. These peaceful riverside memories inspire water-filled courtyards, where reflection pools surround majestic trees, and colourful koi fish swim. Light-filled living rooms and expansive dining rooms provide uplifting places in which large groups of friends and extended family can gather and socialise into the evening. Traditional tea rooms respect long-standing ceremony.
The light-filled living room features an entire wall of glass that looks out into a peaceful courtyard design and on into a separate wing of the villa that holds the parking garage.
To the right of the open plan living room, a large and impressive spiral staircase design twists in contrasting black and white finishes.
Light cream sofas and counterbalancing black black accent chairs make a visually interesting combination.
Recessed track lights cross the ceiling to distribute even illumination throughout the large living space.
A skylight feeds a majestic tree with natural daylight. Rocks complete the sculptural courtyard arrangement.
Black fluted walls panels run up alongside a modern fireplace to camouflage its purpose when not in use,
A wall of wood grain panels creates a visually warming decor feature, which is atmospherically lit around its edges by recessed ribbons of LED light.
The illuminated wall feature negates the need for wall lamps and provides a more even diffusion of brightness.
Wood effect wall panelling wraps other aspects of the room too, creating continuation and cohesion
Alcoves are brightly lit to chase away the shadows.
A traditional prayer table is set up in the corner of the living space, where a Ganesha statue sits among religious texts.
A Buddha statue makes a meditative adornment to one of the coffee tables.
The courtyard design that lies outside of the living room window is a water-filled space that can be passed via modern, linear stepping stones. A pebble bed makes a solid home for a small yet elegant tree, where it can be drenched in sunshine.
Under the shady overhang of a second floor balcony, an outdoor seating area has been created upon a wide wooden deck. Outdoor chairs gather around a luxe marble coffee table to fashion a conversational arrangement.
As the sun moves around, the deck becomes a warmed area in which to take outdoor tea.
A modern chaise lounge reclines under the shade of the upper balcony.
The courtyard supplies a beautiful view and an influx of natural light to the rooms of the home that surround it. It also creates an outdoor connection that encourages the home owners into the fresh air whilst traversing their living spaces.
Under the rippling surface of the reflection pool, colourful koi fish swim and thrive.
The pool holds up a mirror to the surrounding architecture.
A rockface wall supplies a rugged, textured feature behind the small tree.
A Manjushri statue looks contemplative at the water’s edge.
The parking garage is a well-decorated space, clad with wood slatted wall panelling and floored with smooth, polished concrete screed.
Returning back to the living room, we take a closer look at the spiral staircase design that rises up from a high-gloss black platform. A white marble wall rises behind it to instill contrasting pattern.
A spherical sculpture balances on the polished black base of the staircase, with a magical ring of illumination making a bright halo around it.
The orb sculpture interacts with the curve of the winding staircase to complete a breathtaking visual.
Softly glowing LED strip lights highlight each tread of the spiral staircase, providing safe passage from top to bottom.
Solid balustrades are clad in rich wood veneer to create a striking finish.
The curved motif continues inside of the kitchen diner, where a recessed lighting feature displays a circular outline above a round dining table. A matching wall light expands the rounded aesthetic.
A lightweight dining room pendant light hangs low to the round wooden dining table, which features a luxe white marble inlay.
Cream upholstered dining chairs accommodate up to sixteen people at the dinner table.
Just outside of the dining room window, a second water-filled courtyard provides relaxing sights and sounds with a mini waterfall feature. Koi fish swim beneath the concentric ripples that radiate toward a pathway of stepping stones.
Behind the formal dining area, much of the kitchen has a concealed presence. Kitchen storage and integrated appliances are locked behind slab-fronted, handle-free cabinet doors. Only the kitchen island is obvious to the eye, which houses the kitchen sink and the hob.
The kitchen island is merged with a casual breakfast table at one end, which seats six.
A simple centrepiece adds a brief flash of greenery to the white table.
The kitchen extractor unit rises directly out of the island, allowing it to be completely retracted from view when not in use.
Indoor plants and statues make attractive vignettes at each side of the room.
Abstract artwork hangs moments of intrigue along the corridors of the home.
Other art is inset into the wall stucco itself.
A bright tea room is set up at one end of the large open plan living space, separated from the main lounge by the dominant staircase design, and partially by an obscured glass partition.
The slimline table design has a light presence in the space, whilst a stone tiled feature wall is more commanding. A red chair adds a pop of bold colour.
This modernly decorated room leads into a more traditional setting.
A decorative screen marks a visual stop between the two areas.
A courtyard brings sunlight flooding through.
The decor is a grounding palette of rich browns and dark wood tone. A paper globe pendant light places a bright white core at the centre of the scheme.
A focal wooden sideboard displays beautiful craftsmanship.
Lightweight screens are used throughout to subtly mark transitions of space, whilst allowing the eye to wander through and permitting natural light to be shared.
In this traditional tea room design, a low, rustic bench is paired with simple floor cushions. A scenic mural paints a set of wall panels behind.
Recessed perimeter lights give the room a gentle and special essence.
A paper floor lamp draws attention to the attractive wall treatment.
Bowls, rustic wooden trays and a ceramic vase provide the traditional tea table with decorative elements.
A botanical display of flaming red recalls the red flowers and beautiful sunrise of Jiangnan in springtime.
The rustic and natural elements give the space an earthy, outdoor feel.
With the mural screens rotated, the tearoom joins with the neighbouring room.
A Tetsubin teapot is suspended from the ceiling.
The decorative screens are light translucent, which gives them a wonderfully light essence in the space, whether rotated to be open or fully closed.
Plumes of white pampas grass make a mesmerising display under a focussed lighting installation.
The pale grass reflects in an inky black floor.
Black walls and a black ceiling seal out any external light sources.
Inside the main bedroom, a unique headboard design divides the bed from a dressing area behind it.
The bed is situated to focus upon the window view, which is filtered through sheer white voiles.
A sculptural bedroom chair glints in the sunlight with a lustrous golden finish.
A traditional Chinese scene plays out across the back of the bespoke headboard design.
In this double bedroom design, a jade-green bedspread colours a traditionally decorated space.

These modern Chinese minimalist home designs feature distinctive stylish twists. A unique modern staircase dominates one open plan living area, rising up to the second story like a stack of sliding volumes with storage tucked inside the base. Unusual sofas dot minimalist living areas, and chic home workspaces slot in with bespoke desk designs. There’s even a kid’s bedroom that delivers extraordinary fun factor with a zany novelty bed and wall mural. Throughout our collection of home tours we’ll find open and interesting layout concepts that create clear zoning, spacious rooms that are lined with sleek, bespoke storage units, and exceptional bathrooms with split level floors.
Our first modern Chinese minimalist interior is a warm white space with large windows. Storage units line the wall with Shoji screen inspired doors–becasue although the Shoji is accepted as a Japanese home feature, they were born from the folding screens of China. Two dining pendant lights resemble upturned Chinese oil-paper umbrellas.
A modern sofa divides the spacious living area into two parts, the dining room and the lounge.
The living room stands open to the entryway, where the wood laminate floor is switched out for a more hardwearing, easy-clean stone tile.
A round decorative wall mirror makes a large and light-reflective wall feature in the compact entry space. The mirror features an integrated entryway shelf, where a reed diffuser emits a welcoming scent by the front door.
Cushions on the sectional sofa remain understated in colour-coordinated off-white upholstery.
The rectangle wooden coffee table has a traditional Chinese silhouette, which is loosely reminiscent of the multilevel roof overhangs of Chinese tower architecture.
Four small dining benches are inspired by antique rustic milking stools.
A wide doorway gives entry into the kitchen area, where a single row of wooden base cabinets and a white appliance housing unit form a minimalist design. A deluxe stone backsplash morphs into a single open shelf above the kitchen sink and gas hob.
The hard-wearing stone tile floor treatment that we first saw in the home entryway is repeated here in the kitchen, where it will withstand the punishment of dropped pans and food spills.
In the bedroom, a modern platform bed is positioned exactly centre to create a perfectly symmetrical layout between two closet doors.
The doors of the walk-in closet are a wood slatted design, which allows natural light to be shared between the dressing area and the sleep space. Wood grain panels make a mellow headboard design behind the double bed.
The wood slatted closet doors slide neatly into the head of the bed to open entry into the dressing area.
The slatted door design also enables a sneak peek of the clothing collection that lies inside the dressing room. Illuminated shelves and garment rails highlight the pristinely organised designer clothing array.
Behind the wooden headboard wall, a vanity chair pulls up at a floating dressing table. A large, round vanity mirror is illuminated around its edge, causing it to brightly stand out against the wood grain.
An illuminated bathroom mirror is set above a double sink vanity unit, which lights a neat alcove. The shallow alcove has been formed with matching bathroom storage units which build peaceful balance.
A fresh towel shelf cuts beneath the unique bathroom sink and through the flanking storage units, fashioning a bespoke finish.
A frameless glass shower area maintains the bathroom’s generous proportions.
One section of the bathroom floor is raised to accommodate plumbing beneath the bathtub. The raised platform presents a sense of ceremony around the tub too, elevating relaxation time.
Our second modern Chinese home is an art-filled abode. The modern living room dining room combo showcases a terrarium that’s splashed with Mother Nature’s own elegant art.
White-on-white decor creates calm surroundings. Even the Samsung Serif TV fits into the room palette with a crisp white frame.
A striped living room rug adds a moment of pattern and personality to the minimalist white living room. A stainless steel coffee table places cool, sharp metallic contrast on top of the soft, inviting carpet. At the other end of the living room, a glass cabinet displays colourful Bearbrick art.
The dining table is a cantilevered design that protrudes from a structural wall between the kitchen and the hallway.
The cooking hob is tucked around a corner, out of sight from the dining area. A modern, minimalist fruit bowl makes a low profile centrepiece on the wall mounted dining table.
A dividing wall of storage units separates the lounge from a double workspace. KAWS art is proudly displayed in a glass case inside the home office entryway.
A zebra print rug calls attention to a narrow, light-filled reading nook that’s next door to the living room.
The light art looks to be a James Turrell.
Green accents vividly colour this Chinese minimalist living room design. Behind the sofa, a circular green acrylic screen sets a curved shape theme, which is echoed in a large round rug, and a uniquely curvaceous sofa design.
An unusual floor lamp adds a stark black accent in front of the large living room window.
A small side table punctuates the end of the sofa with another nod to Chinese tower architecture.
Opposite the twisted sofa, the TV is retracted into its stand.
There is a second eye-catching green acrylic disc that protrudes from the ceiling, above a modern chaise lounge chair.
A curvaceous folded screen distorts light from the window.
The foot of the modern staircase design is marked by a brightly burning light tube.
In the master bedroom, wooden wardrobes warm the predominantly white decor scheme.
Glossy white curves undulate across the headboard. Wall art calls in the green accent colour
In the second double bedroom, a bright green stripe carves through a custom-made headboard design.
An angular, dual sided sofa design cuts through the centre of this living space, offering multidirectional seating. An eye-catching floor lamp adds extra flair to the unique arrangement.
An angular armchair matches with the modern sofa design.
In place of an unappealing black TV screen, a projector screen unfurls in front of the white living room wall. A simple bench underlines the retractable screen.
Over in one corner of the living room, a stylish home workspace is situated by the large window. A bespoke desk design is given a colourful finish with shades of prussian blue and british racing green. An indoor plant complements the lively aesthetic.
The home office nook by the window also doubles as a bright piano room. Built-in shelves hold music books close to hand.
There is also a handy book nook situated inside the base tread of a unique modern staircase design, which climbs to the upper floor of the home as a stack of extruded volumes.
Recessed LED lights slice highlights into the warm white walls, where natural stone details build tactile moments.
3D relief wall art adds to the textural aesthetic of the home.
Unique end tables wrap the modern sofa, offering practical surfaces for drinks, snacks and reading material.
A tower of wall shelves neatly occupy the alcove behind the unique lounge chair. Their natural wood grain finish ties in smoothly with light oak flooring.
The open layout flows directly into a spacious kitchen and dining area. A central kitchen island marks the change in function.
Three muted green dining chairs add a little colour to the formal dining area. A contemporary grey dining bench brings an unusual silhouette.
A simple glass vase of botanics creates an understated table centrepiece.
Kitchen base cabinets carry a modern handle-free, slab fronted aesthetic, whilst the island units are attractively framed. Two separate sinks serve the prep areas, each with a different chrome faucet design.
Glass blocks fashion a muxarabi screen at the top of the staircase, which brings natural light flooding in over the treads and the landing.
A modern bedside table lamp provides focussed reading light at either side of the pillows.
The kid’s bedroom is a fabulously fun design with a pink bunny themed kids’ bed. Turquoise decor accents make cool contrast.
A palm tree wall mural adds tropical vibes behind the novelty bed. Blush pink bedside units flank the headboard.
A gold bedside table lamp joins in with the rabbit themed bedroom scheme with cute bunny ears.
Our final modern Chinese minimalist home design is a slightly smaller space. Split level flooring and built-in benches provide added interest and helpful zoning.
Houndstooth print scatter cushions and a matching accent throw place bold black and white accents across a small beige sofa.
A projector screen drops down in front of built-in storage units, which float weightlessly off the floor. Their wall mounted design keeps floor space clear to visually increase the proportions of the living room.
Indoor plants bring the uplifting spirit of the outdoors.
Behind the living room sofa, a stylish home office space features made-to-measure furniture and a modern desk design.
Dreamy artwork is propped on a long media shelf that spans the length of the lounge.
Handle-free white units give the kitchen a fresh and clean look.
White countertops brightly reflect natural daylight.
Inside the bedroom, a wood slat accent wall is sandwiched between floating wall units to make a bespoke headboard wall.
The upholstered platform bed sets down a contrasting grey accent.
Pale sage drapes frame the large bedroom window.
The final bedroom contains another run of floating white storage units, along with a split level floor that can serve as a bed base should the need arise.
A floating desk is built onto the wood wall panelling, making one continuous wooden border around the room.
A wood desk chair blends peacefully with the matching backdrop.
The bathroom doubles as a laundry room. A stacked washing machine and tumble dryer tuck neatly into the corner of the space, leaving plenty of room for a modern vanity unit and an over-bath shower.

A minimalist aesthetic leaves all of the layouts clean and uncomplicated, whilst unusual silhouettes add ample interest and intrigue to keep the eye moving and the imagination engaged.
A bespoke bar has been fashioned around a central supporting wall in the living room of our first featured home design. A backlit wall unit stores drinking glasses under a soft atmospheric glow. Two unique modern bar stools give the shadowy hangout a designer edge.
Handwoven cane rattan lounge chairs, inspired by Pierre Jeanneret’s Kangaroo Chair, add an iconic design element to the cosy lounge area.
The seating on the opposite wall is a built-in bench design. The microcement bench merges into a window seat and runs up to meet the concrete staircase design. Across the room, a cantilevered dining table is attached underneath the bar.
The modern staircase design cuts a sharp silhouette out of the calm grey backdrop.
Inside the home workspace, a bespoke desk threads thinly across a huge window. The floor changes from polished concrete to a wood planked platform, differentiating the desk area from a music stage.
As we enter the bedroom, we are able to see directly into a crisp, open ended walk-in wardrobe design.
A floor bed is situated high atop a split level floor design, which is dramatically underlit with a ribbon of LED light.
Works of art shape a cultured setting.
As we enter into the second home tour, our attention is immediately grasped by a Wiggle side chair by Frank Gehry for Vitra.
The Wiggle chair joins a captivating combination of lounge furniture, including a deeply cushioned modern sofa design, a punchy black armchair and a monolithic marble coffee table.
Indoor plants add flashes of colour to the peaceful neutral colour scheme.
A wall of fully fitted cabinets fill the back of the living room with an abundance of storage options. The neighbouring kitchen area continues the sleek white, handle-free unit aesthetic.
A custom-made oak desktop slots into a tight niche.
A microcement countertop and oak drawer unit build a chic dining peninsula, accompanied by complementary two-tone kitchen bar stools.
The next home tour begins with a striking curved sofa design, which embraces a set of contrasting black and white nesting coffee tables.
A split level floor creates an elevated entryway from the front door into the living space.
A channel tufted upholstered bed forms the main event inside of the minimalist bedroom layout. Two different bedside tables and a single wall light complement the asymmetrical makeup of the bed frame.
At the opposite side of the bedroom, a unique makeup table is teamed with an unusual pedestal vanity stool.
In the second bedroom layout, a low shelf frames the space around the bed and cuts through two custom-made wardrobes. A low-hanging bedroom pendant light serves the bedside.
An earthy brown accent wall provides a warm hit of colour in the light home interior.
A tufted sofa backs onto the kitchen island in this home, which leads to the displacement of the breakfast bar. Instead of being attached to the central kitchen island, the bar has been migrated to the window wall where diners can benefit from the view.
Beige, white and black elements navigate visual depth and temperature.
The TV is concealed within a wall of clean white floating units.
A Japanese Chabudai style table shapes a ceremonial tea room.
In the hallway, a modern pedestal sink rises through a custom-cut shelf to form a hand-washing station by the entry door.
A dark moss green accent chair adds a spot of colour to this minimalistic living room, whilst the modular sofa keeps things light with soft beige upholstery.
A piece of modern wall art adds a rainbow aura to the adjacent kitchen diner space.
Behind the lounge, a one wall kitchen stretches out a deep walnut accent in contradiction to the stark white surroundings.
A platform bed with a modern winged headboard design sets a curvaceous theme inside the bedroom, which translates into two shapely custom floating units. One of the units is set low to hold a bedside table lamp…
… The second wall mounted unit serves as both a bedside table and a small desk.
Finally, we come to a home layout set upon a warm white canvas.
The Trinidad chair by Nanna Ditzel for Fredericia doubles up at a cantilevered dining peninsula.
Frameless interior doors stand flush within the walls.
A single, understated bedroom pendant light illuminates one side of the modern platform bed, where it spotlights a linear bedside unit.
A grey bed set adds weight to the warm white and wood decor scheme.
